The Forest

Still, The Forest remains a huge achievement, and a survival horror game that somehow manages to keep those two elements surprisingly separate and yet let each impose upon the other in very interesting ways. There’s something rather unsettling about the island peninsula you find yourself stranded on during the opening cutscene of The Forest. While the landscape is populated with lush plant life and bountiful rivers, people initially seem absent and an eerie silence hangs heavy in the air.

The Forest is an Open world, survival horror game that sees the player crash land on an island inhabited by cannibals. Armed with nothing except a small axe, survival book and knowledge of the land the player must find food, water, build shelter and try to find the other plane passengers, all while being stalked by a cannibalistic tribe.

A brutal, albeit familiar, survival game that’s thoughtfully designed and elegantly refined, and as a result easily the best game of its type on PlayStation 4.
