Obsidian gleefully and unabashedly took a lot of different aspects of the RPG genre and successfully mashed them with its own creative ideas to make The Outer Worlds, one of 2019’s strongest experiences. And now Obsidian is going down another path well-worn by role-playing games: expansions. Peril on Gorgon is the title’s first piece of DLC and, like the best of its peers, it meaningfully adds to the core campaign while also utilizing its best qualities and, in some cases, improving upon them.

Peril on Gorgon tells a dark and mature story that kept me enthralled once the ball got rolling. The asteroid itself is a fun area to explore and is rather sizable. The only downsides were the few side quests and underwhelming armor and weapons.

Firstly, I loved The Outer Worlds on the XBox One and when I heard there would be new DLC content, I was over the moon and if it delivered the same fun as the

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Peril on Gorgon. It delivered more of what I love about The Outer Worlds. If you enjoy the sort of misadventure the core game is famous for you should enjoy this expansion. However, if you weren’t sold the first time around, nothing about Gorgon is going to get you onboard now.

The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon adds an engaging new story to The Outer Worlds. The new content, save for the new location to explore, doesn't change up the formula too much but that's absolutely fine. With a game like The Outer Worlds more of the same is a good thing. The new story content seamlessly weaves into the main story and feels like a natural extension of what was already there. The time to complete The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon is enough where it feels like a worthwhile extension but doesn't overstay its welcome and is the perfect reason to get back into The Outer Worlds.

Although battling endless hordes of hyped-up marauders can grow tiresome, Peril on Gorgon adds a welcome depth to the narrative with plenty of humor wrapped in a sci-fi film-noir mystery.

Peril on Gorgon is the first of two story DLCs for The Outer Worlds. It tells a fun tale and, like the original game, doesn't overstay its welcome.

I’m not proud to say it has been quite some time since I took control of my intrepid space captain and the crew of the Unreliable. I was met face to face with one of the most terrifying prospects a gamer can face: I couldn’t remember how to play. It took me several minutes of menu navigation and button pressing to figure out the basics again and get back into my groove, but once that was out of the way we hit the ground running! Peril on Gorgon has an incredibly interesting opening segment and for those like myself who may have forgotten the games subtle humor and exemplary writing, it will all come flooding back. Crew members like Parvati and Felix absolute love their serials so when a new job comes along that promises intrigue, mystery, and murder, they are more than happy to throw themselves in harms way to be a part of one of those classic tales they love to hear. It’s a really fun reaction to see, however much like those beloved serial programs, it begins with a hook and sort of strings you along as you go.

At the end of the day, Peril on Gorgon is more The Outer Worlds. Whether that's for better or for worse will largely depend on how much you're itching to re-enter the Halcyon Colony and how satisfied you are with the game as it is. Obsidian have doubled down on delivering best-in-class RPG design backed by fantastic writing and quest structure and a solid gameplay loop, even if it gets there without much of an attempt to break the mould. Hopefully the next expansion throws caution to the wind a little more, but if you're dying to jump back in I can absolutely recommend nipping off to Gorgon for a weekend.

Peril on Gorgon is simply more Outer Worlds. It feels like a natural addition and fits right in with the rest of the game, while offering a slightly different tone in terms of story. The main quest is lengthy and replayable, but there’s not much in terms of side quests or gear.

Almost a full year after the original release of The Outer Worlds, Obsidian Entertainment has now launched the first downloadable content piece for its first-person sci-fi roleplaying game, Peril on Gorgon.

September 11, 2020 Read Review

Peril on Gorgon is an entertainingly substantial chunk of The Outer Worlds content, with a handful of side-quests that will keep you poking around the planet until you’ve seen every inch. It may not push the envelope, but it’s good, clean, corporation-crushing fun. And it’s made me eager to see just what the The Outer Worlds’ next expansion will bring.

September 9, 2020 Read Review

The Outer Worlds’ Peril on Gorgon DLC is mechanically unambitious in that it doesn’t introduce any new ideas to change up gameplay, but it does take the crew of the Unreliable to several new locations around the Hyperion system as it unveils a fairly lengthy and entertaining detective story.

In my preview of The Outer Worlds’ first DLC, Peril on Gorgon, I said I would aim to misbehave and surely I did my best. After several hours of conversation, planet-hopping and shooting my way out of most situations, I’ve finally resolved the Peril On Gorgon. The sun will rise, the damsel is saved and the loot has been equipped. Yet after all the running around Peril on Gorgon feels a little too familiar and by extension, underwhelming. So grab that coffee kick back and let’s dissect Ob...

Fans of The Outer Worlds will be happy with Peril on Gorgon. However, for anyone else, fifteen dollars is far too steep of an asking price.

In terms of length, I was expecting to finish Peril On Gorgon in a single day but the amount of added content was enough to keep me busy for more than 10 hours which is perfect for a DLC. It includes an increased level cap, the addition of new perks, weapons, and tons of lore…. Now, the DLC requires the game to be played till a certain point (most planets unlocked) meaning that all made decisions will affect all the content related to the DLC. For example, all our possible companions will have a word in most of the DLC (but not if they are already dead) and this is what is going to happen to most people when they reach this point so the best option would be starting a new game to explore new options and possibilities and preparing all characters for all the new content (including the second DLC that will come eventually). For this reason, this DLC won’t only give around 10 hours of content but can double this amount by forcing the player to create a new save.
