Professional reviews from gaming critics
Two Tribes’ Toki Tori was originally hatched on Nintendo’s Game Boy Color in 2001, and since then has been found nesting on WiiWare, PC and Apple devices. A full-on sequel, Toki Tori 2, has recently been announced for numerous platforms, but in the meantime a HD remake of the original has landed on PlayStation Network.
With Easter right around the corner, it's more than fitting that we get Two Tribes' original egg hunt on the Nintendo Switch. This was my first experience with
Toki Tori is a fun, engaging puzzler that is sure to enthuse anyone who is a fan of the genre. It can be tough at times, but it’s the good kind of tough, a challenge that feels rewarding once you complete it. It also requires perfection in some levels, which can be a bit frustrating, but no level is ever too tough and there are ways to help alleviate frustration. With its clever puzzles and fun aesthetic, Toki Tori is definitely worth the challenge.
The original Toki Tori on the Game Boy Color was a lost treasure that pretty much everyone missed when it was finally released more than seven years ago. Im happy to see that the games been given a second breath of life, and Im even happier to report that this action puzzler holds up extremely well in the move from old-school portable to new-school console.
A devious puzzle-platformer from yesteryear given a sugary sweet contemporary facelift, Toki Tori manages that rare feat of being able to cater and enrapture novice and veteran puzzle fans alike with it's brisk puzzles and progressively more difficult conundrums. What it lacks for variety, it more than makes up for in sheer addictiveness, fun and satisfaction.
The touchscreen control mechanic might not sit so well with old school fans, but for newcomers with a patient disposition, Toki Tori is a real treat from the App store.
