Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft gives you the first three Tomb Raider games, originally released between 1996 and 1998. These are arguably the best games in the franchise's history, and they're a solid fit for the Nintendo Switch.Read More
Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is the best example of a remaster I think I've seen in years. Where some titles have played fast and loose, with full overhauls of their game mechanics or visual styles, Aspyr has taken a classic trilogy and revamped it as a love letter to its origins, bringing memories of old back to life. As more and more titles get the reboot or reimagining treatment, it is refreshing to see an old classic come back in a new style.
Her legacy lives on! Play the next series of Tomb Raider adventures in this remastered collection of the Darkness Trilogy. PS5 version reviewed.
What I like about Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is not just its burnished look, but the way it relights the dimmer half of Lara's legacy and offers a different story.
Tomb Raider I-III Remastered proves that there is still a lot to love about Core Design's vision of the franchise. While there are noticeable issues, these don't break what is otherwise still a fantastic experience for those who are willing to look past them. Perhaps future Tomb Raider games should take some notes.
Despite setbacks in the mechanics and implementation, Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered is a perfect blast to the past to relive your childhood.
About a year after we were treated to a remaster of the original Tomb Raider trilogy, Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered has been given the same care. However, is this package as impressive as the first? Unholster your dual pistols and let's find out.
All in all, I don’t blame the developers for AOD’s shortcomings. This one was just too broken to ever fix. I find the other two remasters more than enough to justify the trilogy’s asking price if you are a fan. If you aren’t, then you’re better off getting into the series via the first trilogy, or by giving the 2013 reboot a shot.
Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered is a great showing from Aspyr that makes this the best way to experience the classic Tomb Raider games, and they are great on Steam Deck.
Storied developer Aspyr has been knocking it out of the park recently. It followed the first three Tomb Raider remasters with an update of the beloved Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver games. More recently, the studio threw a satisfying curve ball with Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles, a remaster nobody knew they needed. It now brings us a concluding triptych of Lara Croft adventures — two uniformly great entries alongside one of the most notorious franchise failures in history.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is just about everything fans could have wanted. All the great quality of life features from I-III return here in addition to new restored content for Tomb Raider VI. While this remaster doesn't completely fix the problems with the black sheep of the series, Tomb Raider VI, it does make the experience much better. Like the first collection, IV-VI Remastered is a huge value for what you get and is a must-buy for fans of the series or classic games.
Your enjoyment of this collection will depend entirely on why you’re playing it. If you want to play using the original graphics, with optional modernized controls, at a high resolution, and with widescreen support, this is essentially perfect. But if you’re looking for a remastered experience, Tomb Raider I-III is both an artistic mess, and a remarkable misunderstanding of some of the original visual game design. So come for the genre-defining original trilogy, but I wouldn’t recommend staying for their remastered incarnations.
There’s a lot of heart and dedication on display here, but the later Tomb Raider games issues are still on display.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is an odd release in that only one of its three games can be considered a genuine classic. Yet despite this, it's still a collection we'd tentatively recommend checking out if only to appreciate how such an iconic video game series was almost completely derailed. The remastered visual upgrades – particularly in the fourth and fifth entries – don't always work, but the addition of 60fps performance alongside the retro aesthetics is very welcome indeed. If you're a fan of Tomb Raider or enjoy revisiting flawed curios from days gone by, this might be worth looking into, but this isn't essential like Aspyr's previous Tomb Raider collection.
Lara Croft returns once again, with a new series of remasters, in what Aspyr are retroactively deeming “The Darkness Trilogy.” Like last year’s Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, this collection offers three classic Tomb Raider titles, updated with gorgeous visuals and gameplay tweaks. However, while the original trilogy is universally praised, Tomb Raiders 4 through 6 are far more divisive.
(Note: there are not and have never been nude codes, and that applies to this Remaster too)
No, she wasn’t created with the best intentions. No, today’s character design by committee would never give her the green light these days. But there’s still plenty of room for Lara — cheeky, uncompromising, even distasteful — to play for sport. For now, I’ll stick with cleaning Croft Manor in PowerWash Simulator.
Almost 30 years on from its debut, Tomb Raider is still one of the most recognisable names in gaming. Sure, we’re quite far removed from the series’ heyday, and are currently in a lull for both the modern games and movies, but Lara Croft’s adventures haven’t been entombed and forgotten by the public. Revisiting the original games seems like a great idea, to go back and have a look at where it all started. After playing these remakes, I have to say that maybe they are better left in our memories where the nostalgia can do all the heavy lifting.
Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered is a collection featuring Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, each remastered with improved visuals, modern control options, photo mode, trophies and achievements, and more.
Although Tomb Raider Remastered does a phenomenal job at updating the original titles’ graphics, it doesn’t improve their abysmal controls or dated gameplay.
Lara Croft will always stand the test of time, as even in these remasters, she clearly retains her charm. However, this collection feels more like a reskin than a true remaster. Yes, the lighting, shadows, and textures have been slightly improved, and Lara looks less angular, but that’s about it. None of the original cutscenes were reworked, and the modern controls don’t deliver the desired improvements—in fact, they make things worse. Additionally, the camera often works against you, making these remasters just as clunky to play as the original games.
