But Velocibox's design isn't completely perfect (but it is pretty close). As addictive and as devilishly difficult the game is, the speed of its levels (and the tile design on the walls of some of its earlier levels) may cause some players to get a headache. It means that as much as some players may be hooked by the game, they will have no choice but to put the DualShock (or the Vita) down, no matter how much they won't want to. Though, it's worth noting that there's a level select for players who do want a break, they can pick right back up where they've left off.
Given its grave difficulty, it speaks volumes that Velocibox is such an absorbing and addictive game. With its simple premise and sharp controls, it really is a test of your reflexes, comprehension and coordination like no other. The striking visual and audio design are merely icing on an already delicious cake, further drawing you into the entrancing madness that is navigating a speeding box down a perilous obstacle course. For those that want a serious challenge, or even just a game to put their unsuspecting friends in front of for a laugh, Velocibox is essential.
Reflex games like Race the Sun or Unpossible can really test your patience, commitment, and sanity. The same level might take you thirty seconds and one attempt, or it might take an hour and over thirty tries before you can finally move on. Velocibox is no exception. It adds a delightful experience for anyone looking to tear their hair out.
In Velocibox, you guide a moving box through an obstacle course that gets increasingly tough and tests your muscle memory and reflexes in diabolical ways.
As I continued to play, I did notice that I was getting better. And as much as I would like to brag that I was as skillful as I looked, I can almost guarantee that I got a very lucky run on each level as I completed them. At times it can feel like the only way to beat a level is to be lucky so that the placement of levels was randomly placed to be easy. And no matter how much I enjoyed this game, which I did, it was hard to play, because the visuals are so jarring. As such Velocibox is not for the faint hearted, or epileptic.
By constantly running at breakneck speed, Velocibox takes a solid idea and turns it into one of the most aggravating games ever made. The cool art style and clever concept isn't enough to make up for the frustrating gameplay, unfair obstacles and cheap deaths. Velocibox is not meant for humans.
