World of Warplanes Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
World of Warplanes is easy to learn but hard to master. It offers an easily accessible way to join in online dogfights, but survival is a matter of skill, practice, and experience. In its current state, it is very playable and provides a strong foundation for future development but may not have a lot of staying power due to limited strategic depth.
World of Warplanes won’t turn you into the next Chuck Yeager, but it will give you an insight into the real draw of flight sims: outmaneuvering and shooting down enemy planes is enormously satisfying. And when live human opponents are piloting those planes, the satisfaction doubles. With its appealing graphics, stable servers, huge aircraft inventory, and no-cost entry fee, World of Warplanes is full of opportunities for dogfighting rookies and veterans alike to enjoy the thrill of the aerial kill. Jump in, but watch out for mismatched pilots and trolls who’re there to ruin it for everybody.
Back in March of this year I was given the chance to preview a new game, still in beta, from the creators of World of Tanks that promised a similar experience, but this time it was all about manning aircraft from different points in history in all-out-war against other players. Well, World of Warplanes has officially launched with a free-to-play model like many other online games have adopted – but is it worth your precious gaming time?

World of Warplanes has a studio that prides itself on supporting its games long term, so I have no doubt that Wargaming will continue to improve upon the formula. In the meantime, it would be a good idea to give both Warplanes and War Thunder a try and see which one you like best.
Flight of fancy.
World of Warplanes is not bad, but it's not nearly as exciting as World of Tanks. It's a sometimes enjoyable, occasionally tiresome arcade shooter that's forgiving to fly and a challenge to master. Compared to its smart, successful older brother, it's not nearly as sophisticated and, most importantly, it's not nearly as much fun.
World of WarPlanes is Wargaming's latest entry into the aerial combat genre. We've taken to the skies to check out WoWP and offer our official review. See if World of WarPlanes soars or crashes and then leave your own thoughts in the comments.
World of Warplanes needs some tune-ups before it can soar
The thing that stops World of Warplanes from fully taking off may be that it falls into a middle ground that fails to adequately cater to the two groups that will play it. Those who fully appreciate the fast-paced, arcade action may not be fully appreciative of the attention to detail paid to the planes on show. Likewise, those who fully appreciate the attention to detail, may be disappointed to not be given a deeper flight simulation with which to fly their historical birds. However, even if...
