WWE 2K14 Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

It still lacks the brains to deliver competent AI and commentators, but WWE 2K14 has more than enough brawn to make up for it. 30 Years of Wrestlemania provides the strongest campaign backbone the series has had in a long time, the in-ring action is faster and more fluid than it's been in years, and thanks to WWE 2K14's continually expanding creation suite, we’re swimming in more options than we ever knew we wanted. It is indeed “time to play the game.” Be sure to check back tomorrow for our IGN's swanky video review for WWE 2K14.

“WWE 2K14 serves up a fun exploration of WrestleMania’s three-decade history, but it’s much more of a fans’ game than an entry point for newcomers.”

A well-rounded spectacle that serves up something for most wrestling fans.

Aside from the above complaints and some poor announcer audio, WWE 2K14 is a very worthy entry into the lore of WWE. Die-hard fans will be smiling all the way as they eat up the 30 Years of WrestleMania mode with two spoons, find some familiarity with the rest of the action, and be happy with most of the upgrades. Newcomers may be a little turned off at times by the seeming inaccessibility of the controls, unexplained in-match visual prompts and the staggering amount of options since the game does little to ease in the uninitiated. What’s here is definitely better than being body-slammed throu...

For the WWE fanatic, WWE 2k14 is a no-brainer. You want to see Hulk Hogan in a modern day Royal Rumble match, defeated by Triple H hitting the Pedigree from nowhere. You want to see insane Hell in A Cell matches. You want tables, you want ladders, you want chairs – oh my! You get all of that. But you also get a fighting engine that still has some rather large flaws and what you don’t get, is anything that’s particularly any better than last year’s effort.

‏The intro to WWE 2K14’s 30 Years of WrestleMania mode can’t fail to draw you in. Tracing the evolution of the event from its slightly more grubby early days, right up to its current ultra-shiny status, the live-action footage offers up moments that’ll make even the most casual WWE fan go, “I remember that!”

Local multiplayer is as fun as it ever was but unfortunately, online play is still quite broken. I faced an incredible amount of lag which makes it almost impossible to play for a game like this. WWE relies on perfect timing in order to reverse move and kick out of pins and unfortunately this is something that simply can’t be enjoyed. I’m praying that this is fixed on the next-gen iterations as it’s something that was never able to be nailed on the PS3 and 360.
