Thank Goodness You’re Here! Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Developer Coal Supper's relentlessly inventive absurdist comedy might, by necessity, keep a tight rein on players, but this is an impeccably constructed masterclass in gag-telling.
Thank Goodness You're Here! is an absolute triumph of comedy. It’s not a classic point-and-click adventure game, but every single aspect of this self-described “slapformer” combines to make it a genuinely funny game that will have you in stiches with its absurdity and cartoon-like atmosphere.
In times where there is a valid argument for the erosion of adult comedy, Thank Goodness You’re Here! delivers one of the funniest videogames I have played in years. Whilst it teeters there, it never oversteps the ‘oof’ mark. With fun and simplistic gameplay that never gets in the way of the short story of a trip to Barnsworth, this is the best of British humour. If the town was a real place, I’d be on the next coach – but I’d probably take packed lunch and avoid the fish suppers (one for you to discover). Thank Goodness this is now on Xbox.
Thank Goodness You're Here is a resounding triumph that showcases how comedy and gaming can thrive in perfect harmony. This ability to be at the heart of this interactive comedic experience enhances the belly laughs, the surreal silliness is a joy to behold, and the level design, ever-changing environment and exquisite animation all play their part as well. It's a title that captures the essence of small-town British life and then pushes the stereotypes to the nth degree to offer over-the-top characters and gags that will live long in the memory. It is an admittedly short experience, but it's ...
Spectacularly succinct and ferociously funny, the only downside to Thank Goodness You're Here! is that there isn’t more of it.
Thank Goodness You're Here! is a hilarious comedy "slapformer" in which double entendres, excellent voice acting, and a vivid art style bring the north of England to life.
Thank Goodness You’re Here isn’t for the faint of heart. At this point, you probably know if this game is for you or not; it really comes down to your sense of humor, and if you’re not into this sort of potty humor, then this isn’t for you. If it sounds entertaining, though, then there’s absolutely no doubt the game is worth a purchase. For sheer quality reasons alone, this is an experience worth having, and I enjoyed nearly every second of it.
Originally released last year onto PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, the surreal British comedy ‘slapformer’ by developers Coal Supper has finally made it’s way onto Xbox this week. But did the residents of Barnsworth and their antics fill me with British pride or did the jokes fall flat? Find out in the XboxEra review of Thank Goodness You’re Here!.
Thank Goodness You’re Here is a wonderful little indie game that punches higher than it should. The comedic dialogue will have you rolling, and the art style is to die for. A lackluster story and shallow gameplay could drag it down, but somehow work perfectly for the game Panic has created. Know your medium, and good things will come of it.
Thank Goodness You’re Here! is a comedic triumph with a terrific style and smooth animation, that is only let down by simple gameplay and repetitive backtracking.
Thank Goodness You’re Here’s humor is its strongest asset, so the trade-off is worth it. Games don't usually prioritize comedy, much less nail it, and that makes developer Coal Supper's first full title that much more impressive. Like a lot of sketch comedy shows, a decent portion of the gags in Thank Goodness You're Here don’t hit their marks, but the ones that do are utterly delightful bursts of joy that are funny to both watch and partake in.
Thank Goodness You're Here! is a funny, cheeky, innuendo-stuffed 2-3 hour adventure game about sausages, pies and slapped bottoms.
