The Switch does One Piece: Unlimited World Red a lot of favours, as it allows for the full graphical fidelity and for portability. There'ssome extra value with having it portable as well as being able to break into co-op anywhere. But for whatever reason, One Piece just doesn't click with me in general, the games included. It's mildly recommendable for action on the Switch, but if you have an appreciation for pirate politics and Devil Fruit this is right up your alley.
The sound in Unlimited World is energetic and full of passion. The music sounds like it would fit into the anime perfectly, with epic orchestrated scores that help give the New World a sense of scale that fits the adventurous world of One Piece. The voice acting is unsurprisingly perfect, thanks to the already stellar cast used in the anime. Every character oozes with charm, even the more detestable villains.
We want to emphasize that 5 will always be the “average” number, not 7. So by far, it’s 50% great and it’s also 50% bad.
One Piece: Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition is the definitive edition of the game. It’s been brought up to standard in the most critical areas, such as in character models, and includes a lot of DLC that has been released over the years – if nothing else you’ll have a greater wardrobe to take on those boss battles with. The boss battles remain a highlight and almost enough of a reason to play the game in itself, but the rest of the game structured around them is so pedestrian and bland that keeping motivation in this one is perhaps the greatest challenge of them all.
