As a massively large mech, playing in cities and mountains just feels like the equivalent to our miniature putt putt. Everything is destructible, so don't be shy to knock down a large apartment complex or two if that clears a better shot for you. Golf in tropic island cities, the surface of the moon, the ocean floor, or even in a volcano. Split screen and online co-op options mean the fun never has to end.

Golf, eh? A gentleman's game, leisurely paced and frightfully mannered. Not the sort of real world sport you might immediately think to add giant mech suits and mass destruction to – but 100ft Robot Golf brings heavy metal mech mayhem to the PlayStation 4's first real-time PlayStation VR compatible golf game.

There is no denying that 100ft Robot Golf is charming and has its fair share of amusing moments. Campaign mode, while short-lived, features some genuinely funny moment due to its cast of quirky characters and its purposefully atrocious voice acting. 100ft Robot Golf is a game whose title paints a much prettier mental image than what’s actually delivered. The very basic golf gameplay is full of frustrating moments without high points to balance them out, the graphics are rudimentary without stylistic charm, and the jokes in the goofy story and commentary don’t land often enough to save it. And if you’re going to play it I’d suggest staying away from the VR mode – it only makes things tougher and uglier.

I feel bad about panning a game that I adore in principle — it’s scrappy and unabashedly enthusiastic, which historically has been my jam — so let me close by saying I appreciate where No Goblin is coming from. 100ft Robot Golf the idea is commendable, but 100ft Robot Golf the video game is a lot harder to appreciate.
