Battle Chasers: Nightwar shows what an independent studio that cares about their graphic novel IP can do. Through hours of RPG combat and dungeon exploring, the game manages to stay interesting and fresh, which makes it difficult to put down. It's clear that developer Airship Syndicate has created a unique and fun turn-based RPG, but most of all they breathed life in the Battle Chasers universe to...

Battle Chasers: Nightwar turns a '90s comic into a hardcore dungeon-crawling JRPG.

This unique JRPG inspired title might have flown under-the-radar last year, but its a game worth making space for from a crowded 2017.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a must-have for fans of the dungeon-crawling genre. A fantastic art direction, strong character development, tons of hours of content and a wonderful homage to true turn-based combat. At this price, it's a steal.

Battle Chasers: Nightwars’ combat and activity-dense world scratch the JRPG itch, even if the storytelling and character development leave a fair bit to be desired. Its attractive dungeons and outdoor regions are fun to get lost in, and there are just enough hidden treasures to claim to make exploration rewarding in a more than visual capacity. I’d be very pleased to see more turn-based indie RPGs...

Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a turn based role-playing game with an emphasis on traversing randomised dungeons. However, it's not an endless loot-'em-up dungeon crawler – it has a story, a cool cast of characters, and an interesting game world to explore. It's also got a gorgeous art style and a fantastic soundtrack.

I’m glad that Battle Chasers: Nightwar was finally released, despite never being on my radar. This title is a breath of fresh air with several innovative battle mechanics, enjoyable characters and a return to my beloved turn-based gaming. The story could have been better, but for those looking for more Battle Chasers, you’re going to be in love with it.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar delivers a satisfying game, but it really shines in moments where it blends a comic book with an RPG seamlessly. Fans of the series will fall in love with it, but it doesn’t revolutionize the genre or come close to reaching the upper echelons of it.

There isn’t much joy to be found in replaying areas you’ve only visited a couple of hours earlier, either, so unless you have a lot of patience, you’ll likely run out of steam for Nightwar after six or eight hours. It’s a shame, because everything else about the game is wonderful – its art is gorgeous, the act of combat itself is tense and enjoyable, and the story is engaging. Airship Syndicate ha...

The night is dark and full of errors.

I didn’t go into Battle Chasers: Nightwar expecting much of anything, given the development studio’s relative youth as a company and the spotty record of Kickstarted games. However, Nightwar’s focus on style and character, coupled with a mostly excellent combat system, kept me hooked for much longer than I had imagined. Whatever your familiarity with its source material, this game builds a beautif...
