The Fate series gets a new action RPG, this one handled by the Musou studio itself, Omega Force. While Fate/Samurai Remnant provides an interest new setting and tale for the series, its gameplay doesn't quite fully commit.

I’m not particularly familiar with the lore of the Fate franchise. My first foray into that world was a Musou game entitled Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star, and holy hell; I was confused by that storyline. It assumes you have a previous understanding of the characters and what they’re about. I didn’t, and needless to say, that killed my enjoyment – I had no motivation to want to reach the end credits. Without anything tangible to bite upon, I got bored. Yes, the gameplay was decent, and...

Fate/Samurai Remnant is an enjoyable entry in the Fate universe. Its heavy emphasis on storytelling may be longwinded at times, but it does lead to a more interesting experience. The story is a compelling one which can keep the player interested in learning what the Waxing Moon Ritual is and who are the true identities of the warrior spirit Servants. The enjoyable gameplay complements the narrative, though pacing issues and repetition can sometimes hold the the experience back from reaching true greatness. But even with these criticisms, Fate/Samurai Remnant is still a good time and likely to provide many hours...

Fate/Samurai Remnant is a fantastic Musou game that adds more layers and mechanics to what it means to be a Musou game. It also has a story highly reminiscent of the other action-based Fate Series anime.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is the best game in the franchise. It's a perfect blend of Fate worldbuilding and faithfulness to the Edo-period Japanese setting. It's also an incredible next step for Omega Force, and delivers one of the most addictive and engaging action-adventure experiences I've had in ages.

Fate/Samurai Remnant works as an excellent introduction to its franchise. A few issues aside, the combat system is fantastic and pulls off the difficult task of remaining fun over a lengthy runtime, which is something that similar titles can struggle with. The story is also superb and acts as the main motivator for you to pull out your sword as you push forward into the next mob of enemies.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is a great palate cleanser after all the massive games of 2023. Fans of either the Fate series or Musou games shouldn't hesitate to check this one out.

The Fate series has been around for decades, but you’d be forgiven for not diving into its rich lore and back-story up until this point. Fate/Samurai: Remnant serves as a solid way to get involved with the broader Fate universe, offering its best combat mechanics to date, with several RPG systems intertwining. Combine that with a deep narrative spanning generations and timelines along with an Edo Japan setting that is gorgeous to roam around, and you have the recipe for a sleeper hit, even ...

There’s a lot to like in Fate/Samurai Remnant for Fate fans, or those who simply enjoy action RPGs in general. The story is meaty, and with multiple endings as well as a New Game Plus mode available, some may even jump in for another playthrough or two. It’s a shame the combat isn’t a little more refined and less reliant on giving enemies armour, forcibly making fights more drawn out and challenging than they should be. Those that can look past this issue, however, will get a lot of enjoyment out of this latest effort by Omega Force.

The Holy Grail War kicks off what I hope to be a continuing run for the Fate franchise. Fate/Samurai Remnant tells a good story with plenty of well-written characters and twists and turns. Its combat is simplistic but manages to keep you going for a fairly long duration. I hope this is the first step of great things to come for this unique franchise.
