Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is the best way to play one of PlayStation's defining games. It's improved visually in every way, with a great amount of love and care put into every detail and will be a joy for newcomers and fans alike.
In this review, we’ll explore Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Horizon Zero Dawn originally captivated players in 2017 with its unique post-apocalyptic landscape where nature and robotic machines coexist in a breathtaking dance of survival. We will dive deep into the visual, technical, and gameplay improvements that make this remastered edition a noteworthy experience for both newcomers and returning players.
After playing Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, any qualms about this remaster can and will vanish. This is an in-depth remaster that’s just shy of being a remake. The way Nixxes Studios manages to rework countless motion capture footage to make interactions more lifelike and having the environments pop more than they did in the past is incredible. Combining that with the PlayStation 5's haptic feedback, especially for Aloy’s bow, is satisfying. If any players are still skeptical, rest assure...
By almost every metric, Horizon Zero Dawn is a classic action RPG. For anyone who missed it, the Remastered edition is definitely the version to pick up. For those who already own it, the upgrade to Remastered is a reasonable $10 and at least on PS5, PS4 cloud saves work just fine. If the new and improved visuals inspire folks to play the game, or play it again, that’s a win for everyone.
Dutch developer Guerrilla seemingly achieved the impossible with Horizon Zero Dawn. After a decade slaving away over first-person shooter series Killzone, the studio effectively retooled itself as a maker of open world RPGs, and sold tens of millions of copies in the process. The intellectual property has since seen the release of a sequel and a PSVR2 spin-off, with a family-friendly LEGO adaptation imminent.
Horizon: Zero Dawn Remastered may not have been entirely necessary, but for just a few dollars it remains a great showcase of the PS5’s graphical prowess. Whether that’s enough for anyone who’s beaten it already will be down to your preference.
Horizon Zero Dawn was already playable on PS5 through backward compatibility and already looked great. It's understandable that some PlayStation fans are frustrated about the choice to remaster the game instead of focusing on titles that have been in higher demand by the community. Even so, that doesn't mean Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is a bad product. In fact, it's far from it. Assessed in a vacuum, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is an undeniable improvement over the original game with better graphics and it makes great use of the PS5's unique features. It doesn't do enough new for those that have already played through Horizon Zero Dawn to make a return trip, but it's the perfect jumping on point for newcomers and is a worthwhile upgrade for those that have yet to finish their playthroughs.
The storytelling and characters are as dull as ever, but Horizon Zero Dawn remains one of the best open world experiences of the last gen and now looks better than ever.
A worthy upgrade that brings it closer to the fidelity of its sequel, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is the best version of a great sci-fi RPG. Guerrilla Games and Nixxes Software have turned this remaster skeptic into a true believer.
Experience the joy of exploring beautiful yet hazardous post-apocalyptic America all over again in this remaster of Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Formally announced last month during the PlayStation State of Play presentation, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered has finally arrived on PS5 and PC. Developed by series developer Guerrilla Games alongside Nixxes Software, this upgrade of the acclaimed 2017 original is more than a simple coat of paint, and at least on the visual and accessibility side of things, feels like a meaningful upgrade. That said, it isn’t a whole lot MORE than that, so players looking for a package with more unique game...
Horizon Zero Dawn might not have needed a remaster, but Nixxes has put in some serious effort to bring this great game bang up to date and make full use of the capabilities of the PS5. And so, whether you're a fan wanting to jump in for another playthrough, or a newcomer to the series, it's a no-brainer.
Whether or not you think it needed to happen, Nixxes and Guerrilla Games' effort to refresh Horizon Zero Dawn in its sequel's image is an incredibly successful one. It makes the original version look like a first draft by comparison, and while it won't convince anyone who disliked Zero Dawn on a fundamental level, $15 for the upgrade should be an easy sell for diehards.
If by dumb luck or some other unique set of circumstances you have yet to play Horizon Zero Dawn, then this is arguably by far the best way to experience one of the best open world efforts out there that still holds up extremely well even today. Perhaps most encouragingly, Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster also heralds the fact that Nixxes is a force to be reckoned in the console porting space too, representing an added feather in the cap for Sony and its burgeoning PlayStation Studios portfolio as we barrel towards the fourth anniversary of PlayStation 5.
The wait for Horizon 3, and honestly, a lot of PlayStation Studios titles is agonizing, especially four years into the PS5’s lifecycle. Horizon Zero Dawn isn’t that old of a game or in dire need of a remaster like those still trapped on PS3 hardware, but what Nixxes has managed to do with Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is simply breathtaking. The studio has successfully taken a game that delivered a nearly perfect presentation for the time and managed to make it look even better. No stone was left unturned, with Nixxes essentially overhauling every detail, piece of vegetation, animation and material possible.
Aloy returns in this impressive but ultimately unnecessary remaster of the PS4 classic.
