Inside Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Inside very clearly builds upon what made Limbo great, and in fact builds something greater. Its unimaginable twist may leave you dumbfounded, confused, and quite possibly speechless, but it will fuel heated discussion with your friends about its meaning, its message, and its intentions. It’s a short ride, but one I felt compelled to take again – including a search for its mysterious hidden orb collectibles. Play it soon before anyone spoils a single big moment for you.

Inside delights from start to finish. Don't miss out on what will surely be one of the best games of this generation.

A beautiful union of impeccable visuals, thought-provoking setting and solid puzzle gameplay.

Playdead’s Inside is a masterpiece from beginning to end, and its Switch port is as good as you could hope for. It’s another must-play title on Nintendo’s hybrid, and is unlike anything I’ve ever played before.

No missteps, no mistakes. Any way you look at it, Inside knows what it wants to be, while succeeding on nearly every level.

Like Limbo, Inside is short, mechanically addictive and emotionally haunting. It's the perfect addition to the Switch's growing library of now-portable indie hits.

Puzzles are wonderfully designed but never too complicated. Never was the answer clearly given, instead I was forced to think about each action. Dynamic changes are constantly being introduced to ensure that nothing felt repetitive. Unexpected changes in the look and gameplay had me shocked. In one moment I’m breaking down a wall of a warehouse to make it to the next section and in another pretending to be like everyone else while a drone hovers behind me.

Inside is very much a near-perfect follow up to 2010's excellent Limbo. The game has the same dark, malevolent feel, and it expands on its predecessor's puzzle platforming in new and interesting ways. It does have a few of the same faults, such as a short runtime, and the overall experience isn't quite as blissfully satisfying, but Inside is a great game from start to finish. Fans of indie titles, moody atmosphere, and/or puzzle platformers should grab Inside ASAP.

A worthy follow-up to Limbo, that challenges in terms of both its fiendish puzzles and its harrowing storytelling.

Inside is the new critical hit by Playdead. Limbo, Playdead's previous and first game, was a dark and foreboding tale about a boy surviving in a bleak world full of dangers. Much like Limbo, Inside is a dark and foreboding tale about a boy surviving in a bleak world full of dangers. It's always a good thing to stick to what you know, and Playdead certainly have done that. It also helps that they're great at what they know.
