Mario Kart 8 Deluxe gives players the full package right from the starting line. With an enormous roster of both characters and raceways to select from MK8 Deluxe brings over all of the content from the Wii U edition of the game and then goes and adds more content. While those wanting the single player experience might not find too much to race for, as a multiplayer title this is a great one to challenge your friends to.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe makes the small changes needed to differentiate itself from its inferior Wii U version. It’s a worthy purchase regardless of the time you’ve spent playing the same tracks on the Wii U, as the battle mode will keep you entertained for years to come. For any fan of local Mario Kart multiplayer, this is a no brainer. Still, I can’t fully recommend buying it for online play until Nintendo resolves poor connectivity issues.

Overall though, there’s not a lot I can fault Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for. It’s a remake, sure, but it’s also the best the series has ever been and now a family favorite in my house.  Oh, and I barely even mentioned the return of the excellent Battle Mode and all its arena-based kart combat fun. This one is highly recommended, and I only hopes Nintendo releases more content in the future.

If you are just jumping in for the very first time, prepare to have your mind blown away. A true modern multiplayer classic, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe stands as one of the greatest games that Nintendo has ever made.

I’ll admit I was initially skeptical when one of the biggest new titles announced for the Nintendo Switch was a definitive edition of one of the Wii U’s most successful releases, but the more I play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the more I think it’s one of the smartest decisions Nintendo have made. Mario Kart 8 was, for my money, the best Mario Kart game to date. It refined the series in a way that was slick and modern while remaining brilliantly nostalgic, and now we get to experience it all o...

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe plays exceptionally well and its pick-up-and-play nature feels right at home on Nintendo Switch. There may not be any game-changing additions, but new items and characters, as well as an insanely fun Battle mode, help round out an already-impressive package.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is straight-up a better version of the game without compromise. It looks crisper, there’s more to do, it’s portable, and it might even outsell the Wii U version to ensure a healthier long-term community. With battle mode firmly in place, it’s one of the best kart racers ever made.

Mario Kart 8 was already a simply sublime kart racer on Wii U, but Nintendo have managed to make it just that little bit better. From the new and improved Battle Mode to tweaks that add more depth for veterans and more accessibility for novices, a great deal of thought and effort went into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, beyond simply porting it to Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to be the best in the business, and now you can play it on the train.

It’s not unusual to get a sense of familiarity when playing a Nintendo game. Mario’s mug and music are well known, and you’d be hard-pressed to find many people – gamer or no – that don’t recognize his melodies. But this might be the first time I’ve entered into a new Nintendo game with a sense of de ja vu instead of homely familiarity. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as the title implies, is basically a Game of the Year edition, not a brand new game – although that’s not necessarily a bad thing…

Following Breath of the Wild, Nintendo's nascent system is lacking in exclusives two months into its lifecycle. Mario Kart 8 was a big hit for Wii U when it released in 2014, and now the acclaimed title makes the leap to Switch. While remastered games are rarely the most anticipated releases on any system, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe includes myriad important improvements and adds portability to create the definitive version of an already great game.

When it comes to passing final judgement on a re-release like this it's tricky - do we scale back praise because it's content we've mostly seen before, or simply judge a release on its own merits? We've opted for the latter here, and so we have a definitive version of a fantastic Wii U game that adds its own extras to spruce up the experience. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe delivers a huge amount of racing goodness right out of the box, and it's a polished version of a Wii U entry that was a proper Battle Mode away from being...

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is an amazing game for all the same reasons I mentioned in our original review. It’s still a gorgeous kart racer and every bit as addictive as it was in 2014. This is the best entry in the series so far, and it has all the content you’ll need. Returning players have seen a lot of this game before, but the overhauled Battle mode and its five additional ways to play are a great reason to pick it up. Nintendo didn’t do enough to make the online experience better, but the rest of this game holds...

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe performs better than it ever has, this time with a crisper look that really shines both in docked and handheld forms. While it is disappointing that no new race tracks were added, the completely overhauled Battle Mode complete with eight arenas makes up for that easily, making Mario Kart 8 Deluxe the definitive Mario Kart experience to date.
