MLB The Show 24 is another excellent update in one of the best sports game franchises. The Storylines mode continues to shine a light on forgotten Negro League legends, and the addition of women to Road to the Show is a welcomed one. Combine that with a refreshed look and you have the complete baseball package.

MLB The Show 24 is another very good baseball game from San Diego Studio. It suffers from a lot of the same pitfalls as other annual sports titles, but The Show is so clearly head-and-shoulders above those games. The Negro Leagues Season 2, inclusive additions to RTTS, and the introduction of Impact Plays show that this series hasn’t quite lost its fastball.

MLB The Show 24 delights with another season of Storylines: The Negro Leagues and continued on-field excellence, but some modes are still in desperate need of an overhaul.

MLB The Show’s commitment to nuance, iteration, and diversity is what sets it apart. Since the long-running series arrived on Xbox in 2021, the baseball sim has recontextualized sports games – emphasizing the purpose of communities while fitting in new features like Pinpoint Pitching, custom stadiums, and online ranked co-op. The Show 23 pushed the bar further with Storylines: The Negro Leagues, an interactive museum that detailed eight stars of baseball’s segregated past. This year’s iteration mirrors it with new Storyline episodes, a 60-minute tribute to Yankee legend Derek Jeter, and an original RTTS narrative where “Women Pave Their Way.”...

Sony’s MLB The Show 24 continues to be a strong simulation on the field, but its errors everywhere else and lack of innovation from last year keeps this one in the infield. Here’s our MLB The Show 24 review.

All in all, MLB The Show 24 continues to swing for the fences as the best representation of the sport in video game form, and save for a few misses, it always delivers. The outstanding gameplay is enhanced with an elevated presentation in all of the modes, and the storytelling in Storylines is a big draw for those wanting to embrace the game's roots and pay homage to the legends from yesteryear. While Diamond Dynasty can be an acquired taste, and the inclusion of Derek Jeter may not appeal to all, these missteps hardly take the shine of the gem...

Every year sports games come and go, from every sport imaginable including AFL, NRL, Cricket, Football/Soccer, NBA, NFL, and Golf. But MLB has something these games do not. I celebrated scoring a home run because it felt like an accomplishment. The controls are much the same as a cricket game, simple but effective button presses and directional inputs, but for some reason, getting it all right in MLB The Show 24 just feels better. Perhaps it’s the slight cut away from the batter, before fol...

There’s more than enough here for almost every baseball fan to find something they enjoy, which is ultimately the goal. Not everyone’s going to love Road to the Show, but they’ll like something else. Not all of MLB The Show 24 is good, but there is a love and respect for baseball present. It’s not a home run, but it is a solid hit.

When it comes to sports gaming, MLB The Show 24 is just more proof of Sony San Diego's supremacy over the genre. Road to the Show is better than ever, and even with a few flaws it's still the best career mode available today. Diamond Dynasty outperforms every single ultimate team experience around, and the dual-threat of Franchise Mode and March to October delivered once again.

MLB The Show 24 isn’t a perfect sports game. It has some things that you’ll wish got more attention. But as a sports game fan, I can say that the perfect sports game doesn’t exist. The expanded storylines and the option to create a female player add to an already robust feature set. If you love baseball, MLB The Show 24 has something for you. It’s a strong effort and fun experience that should contend for best sports game awards again in 2024.

The sports genre isn't known for making major changes year after year. An ongoing joke in the video game community is that the most any sports game changes is its rosters, but MLB The Show 24 finds ways to subvert that expectation in ways that are both subtle and widely felt. The Show has historically stuck out as unlike FIFA and Madden for its willingness to evolve at a more substantial pace, and The Show 24 is no exception. That's not to say there aren't any holes in SDS' swing, but as a total package, The Show 24 reasserts why...

I was first introduced to the world of baseball, be it virtual or otherwise, three years ago, when I first reviewd MLB The Show 21. It didn’t make fall in love for the sport like how EA Sports’ NHL games did, but I was impressed with the quality in display, as well as the novelty factor of playing a game published by Sony on an Xbox system. I missed out on some of its yearly sequels, and I guess that was for the best. I’m not saying they were bad games, but I was able to dive into MLB T...

San Diego Studio focused on a few primary additions for MLB The Show 24. Adding two Storylines and the way this was produced and the pacing of the gameplay opens the door for the future. These docu-series without taxing gameplay that provide rewards will keep players occupied early, on top of learning about baseball history that includes one of the greatest dynasties of all time. Other changes to Road to the Show and Franchise are noticeable at the surface level, but the experience of both remains unchanged. The same goes into the other modes that are here. The game still...

Shifting the focus over to Franchise, years of playing Franchise modes in NHL, Madden, FIFA, NBA 2K, and Football Manager have made me appreciate the thrill of pulling the strings and leading your favorite team to a championship. But I feel none of that joy while playing MLB The Show 24’s Franchise mode. The devs neglected a passionate community by failing to make any noteworthy additions. The combination of a clunky UI that makes it impossible to find anything, a barebones scouting system, and a disappointing presentation set the game mode years back from the rest of the competition. But...
