Cadence has a dream, and it’s a dream shared by many across both the real world and the world of Note. Cadence wants to be a pop star. The only problem here is the stranglehold that the establishment have on the music of this entirely music-based society. While there’s a yearly talent contest to crown the biggest star, it’s been won by the same group nine years in a row, and one of the members of the adjudicating council is their manager. It’s like X-Factor or Pop Idol, but Simon Cowell has already picked the winner and signed them to his label. The injustice, the blandness, and the tired old tracks that sound like everything else have pushed Cadence to the limit, and now she’s turning everything up to 11 on her quest to win the key to the city and the recording contract that comes with it.

A turn-based RPG with a unique presentation, People of Note not only looks fabulous but it's a joy to play, too. It mixes together traditional RPG elements with puzzles and music to make a game that isn't afraid to be different.

After hours with People of Note, I feel like I owe it an apology as a result of my preview. This, the second game from Iridium, isn’t so much a music-based game than one about music. Instead, it’s better to call this equal parts RPG, narrative adventure, and puzzler — and each of People of Note‘s elements has been crafted with precision and care.

People of Note is a musical turn-based RPG that has a lot of love for the medium. It is a phenomenal time that will leave you wanting to hear the songs on loop.

People of Note is a game that’s positively bursting with love for classic RPGs, music theory and culture, and the people who like both. It’s got an earnest, interesting story with diverse, likable characters, and smartly-designed, cleverly-implemented combat and stat-building systems. Compared to some similar RPGs, it’s a little on the leaner side, and the relatively minor presence of rhythm mechanics is disappointing. Still, overall, it’s a rock-solid, highly-enjoyable experience, and I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who likes good, ol’ fashioned turn-based combat and musical references. Also, if and when they release an official soundtrack, I will play it on loop until my speakers wear out. Especially the Irish battle music, that track is straight fire.

People of Note is about a land of music called Note, and the protagonist, Cadence, wants to be the top Pop songstress in Chordia through the competition Noteworthy. What begins as a simple dream becomes much more in this linear turn-based RPG. With a plot that barely gets there and an unlikeable main character, my feelings are mixed on this game.

The overlap between gamers and musical fans may be small, but those in that group will likely love People of Note. It succeeds as a fun game while also delivering engaging musical numbers that stick with players.Repetitive grunt battles and some camera issues do weigh the experience down, but they don't spoil the overall production. People of Note still marches to the beat of its own drum, and the result is a game all music lovers should experience.

There’s a lot to like about the idea and the game design behind People of Note. A turn-based RPG that blends rhythm mechanics, musical storytelling, and a character-driven journey feels like a natural fit, especially in a genre that’s constantly experimenting with new ways to stand out. Developed by Iridium Studios, the game puts players in the role of Cadence, an aspiring pop singer with big ambitions and an even bigger ego, determined to make it big after being rejected from the Notewor...

People of Note is a delightful experience from beginning to end. The story captures the vibe of 2000s Disney Channel musicals alongside some charming characters and nods to pop culture. Further, the gameplay combines the rhythm and RPG genres excellently, and throws in some extra strategy for you to master while you're having fun exploring. While there are some glitches and issues with the musical sequences, these aren't enough to completely detract from just how great this game is.

It doesn’t happen very often, but occasionally a game comes around that’s tailor made for me. People of Note, a musical RPG from indie outfit Iridium Studios, is that kinda release.

People of Note is a great mash-up of the people behind music. Music may have divided the people of Note, yet it also slowly brings them all together for a brighter, more rockin’ future.
