Persona 5 Royal Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Of course we had to come right back to one of the most standout features of Persona 5, which is the incredibly stylish UI that later inspired a number of Japanese developers including Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai. Persona 5 Royal is an improvement overall, with tons of new content and gameplay balancing we never knew we needed, such as having gun ammo reload after every battle versus after a dungeon run.
Persona 5 Royal improves on the original in almost countless ways, big and small, to deliver a top-notch RPG for new and old fans alike.
Changing the world takes heart.
Persona 5 Royal is an incredible game in itself and a must have on the Steam Deck!
Persona 5 stole our hearts back in 2017. It was crowned Push Square's Game of the Year, and it remains one of the greatest role-playing titles available on PlayStation 4. It's impressive, then, that Persona 5 Royal makes the original pretty much redundant. This enhanced re-release is hands down the best way to experience the tale of the Phantom Thieves -- the main attraction being a whole new school semester and story arc that's bolted onto the end of the game. Simply put, this is the definitive version of Persona 5.
Persona 5 Royal is proof that even the best games can be made better by acknowledging shortcomings and addressing them, however small they are.
Persona 5 Royal is the very definition of ‘required reading' for JRPG fans. A deep and moving story, stylish presentation, amazing soundtrack, and decision-driven gameplay all combine to make for an unforgettable and exceptional experience that proves itself to be every bit deserving of the hype and praise it’s already received. While those who have played this elsewhere may want to consider whether Switch's portability is enough of a selling point to justify paying full price to double dip, it suits it perfectly. Persona 5 Royal remains a game that we absolutely recommend you pick up as soon ...
Turn-based RPGs take a knee, here's your new king.
If you already own Persona 5 Royal on PS4, then, there might not be enough here to convince you to buy it again. It’s a more pleasant, nicer-looking experience, sure, but beyond that it’s exactly the same game. For newcomers though, it should be a no-brainer. One of the best RPGs of the last decade, perhaps of all-time, now looks and plays better than ever before. And while it hardly transforms the experience, the inclusion of a substantial amount of DLC sweetens the deal.
Certainly it's difficult to make a strong argument for exactly whom should be buying Persona 5 Royal on PS5. If you've absolutely never played Persona 5 before than that person would be you, although you there is a compelling argument for just buying the PS4 version at a cheaper price anyway. For everyone else that has already sampled the delights of the game on PS4 and PS4 Pro, Persona 5 Royal not only doesn't offer enough to make the leap worthwhile but the lack of charitable continuity when it comes to save files and cross-gen upgrades makes it that much more challenging to provide a reason...
Persona 5 Royale is a marvelous victory lap. The original was pure enjoyment, but Royal greatly enhances it. Now mind you, this isn’t some monumental change that the more casual players would want to reinvest another 100-150 hours into, but if you're looking for an extension of the story and a more robust, complete combat system, then Royal is for you. There’s a brand new party member and dungeon that offer a strong amount of variety and even Mementos has become a more realized component. Combat has been styled up even more with Showtime attacks and Disaster Shadows and even bosses have got a ...
The additions introduced in Royal allow Persona 5 to become the excellent JRPG it was always truly meant to be, and it's a wonderful effort that will surely be appreciated by fans.
