The gist of it is though; this is more than just a few updates slapped on top of an existing game, it's a complete rethinking of the major and minor components that made the original what it was. For Persona 5 megafans who are ready to play through the game again, Royal is a very compelling package that more than justifies the double dip, and for curious newcomers it's an absolute no-brainer.

Certainly it's difficult to make a strong argument for exactly whom should be buying Persona 5 Royal on PS5. If you've absolutely never played Persona 5 before than that person would be you, although you there is a compelling argument for just buying the PS4 version at a cheaper price anyway. For everyone else that has already sampled the delights of the game on PS4 and PS4 Pro, Persona 5 Royal not only doesn't offer enough to make the leap worthwhile but the lack of charitable continuity when it comes to save files and cross-gen upgrades makes it that much...

Persona 5 Royal is easily one of the best JRPGs on Xbox, which isn’t bad for a game that originally came out in 2019! A perfect blend of real-world shenanigans, mixed with some intense dungeon-crawling sections, and put together in one of the most perfectly presented packages in video games - what’s not to love? Buy it, play it on Game Pass... just make sure you experience it.

Persona 5 Royal makes the leap to PC with aplomb. There’s a decent suite of options including rebindable controls and resolution scaling, but it’s not quite perfect. Keyboard and mouse leave a small amount to be desired and the UI looks awful at resolutions below 1080. Still, if you’re looking to play one of the most stylish and fun JRPGs around, PC is the perfect way to experience it.

If you already own Persona 5 Royal on PS4, then, there might not be enough here to convince you to buy it again. It’s a more pleasant, nicer-looking experience, sure, but beyond that it’s exactly the same game. For newcomers though, it should be a no-brainer. One of the best RPGs of the last decade, perhaps of all-time, now looks and plays better than ever before. And while it hardly transforms the experience, the inclusion of a substantial amount of DLC sweetens the deal.

Persona 5 Royal is the very definition of ‘required reading' for JRPG fans. A deep and moving story, stylish presentation, amazing soundtrack, and decision-driven gameplay all combine to make for an unforgettable and exceptional experience that proves itself to be every bit deserving of the hype and praise it’s already received. While those who have played this elsewhere may want to consider whether Switch's portability is enough of a selling point to justify paying full price to double dip, it suits it perfectly. Persona 5 Royal remains a game that we absolutely recommend you pick up as soon as you...

For those who have somehow missed Persona 5 Royal and are still interested in trying the game, it's debatable whether the title's Switch debut is the right platform - there are better options depending on which qualities a player desires. For anyone who wants to be able to return to the beautiful, compelling, and introspective world of Persona 5 Royal at their leisure, however, there's no doubt that P5R on Switch is the best way to do so. Ease of access thanks to the Switch's handheld mode and a lovely port that leaves very little wanting make Persona 5 Royal...

When Persona 5 came out in 2017, it stole the hearts and minds of millions of gamers. Many players who avoided the JRPG genre entirely would find themselves strangely captivated by the tale of the Phantom Thieves. Some even found themselves searching for and playing previous Persona games simply based on how good Persona 5 is. From its captivating music and memorable story to its gorgeous style, every aspect of the game seems to mesh together and work incredibly well. Each piece builds up and compliments the next, until the game is justified in standing atop the RPG genre as...

Persona 5 Royal is a fantastic game. Excellent turn-based combat is carried further by gorgeous visuals, an incredible soundtrack, and a story filled with brilliant twists and turns. It’s available day one on Xbox Game Pass and if you’re looking for a game to put over 100 hours into (conservatively) then do yourself a favor and give this one a go.

It's been a long time coming, but Persona 5 Royal is finally expanding its reach in the way it has always deserved. More gamers being able to get their hands on one of the best JRPGs ever made is undoubtedly a good thing, and while Nintendo Switch players often get the short end of the stick when it comes to ports, Royal is definitely just as capable of stealing hearts on the hybrid console as it is anywhere else.

Persona 5 Royal is a wonderful experience on Nintendo Switch with its beautiful visuals and fun turn-based combat holding up quite well. Players can experience a captivating story on the go or at home with tons of new features unavailable in the original Persona 5. This is a must-buy for RPG fans who have yet to experience the tale of the Phantom Thieves or for those who want to relive the journey on a portable device.

When it launched back in 2017, Persona 5 was immediately regarded as one of the very best JRPGs of the current console generation and with good reason. It was bold, stylish and delivered an engrossing narrative to get lost in over the course of its near 100 hour runtime. Three years later, developer Atlus releases Persona 5 Royal, which is a complete overhaul of the original Persona 5 to not only make it an overall better experience to play with its many quality of life features, but also add...

Overall, Persona 5 Royal is an incredible deluxe version of what was, in my mind, already one of the greatest JRPGs of all time. The new characters, gameplay features, and more efficient mechanics make Persona 5 Royal worth the time sink for returning fans who have already plugged 100+ hours into the original while making the adventure more accessible and fun for new players.

It's only been a mere two years since The Phantom Thieves of Hearts broke out into the spotlight in Persona 5. Since then, we've seen pseudo sequels get developed and released in Japan by way of Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Breakers , a full-length anime, and others. With a story that wrapped up neatly in the original game, I was left wondering what else is left for these Shujin Academy delinquents. Atlus has once again put these heart-stealing rogues onto center stage with Persona 5 Royal, a greatly expanded version of the original PlayStation 3/4 JRPG. Does Persona 5...

Persona 5 stole our hearts back in 2017. It was crowned Push Square's Game of the Year, and it remains one of the greatest role-playing titles available on PlayStation 4. It's impressive, then, that Persona 5 Royal makes the original pretty much redundant. This enhanced re-release is hands down the best way to experience the tale of the Phantom Thieves -- the main attraction being a whole new school semester and story arc that's bolted onto the end of the game. Simply put, this is the definitive version of Persona 5.

When it launched in 2017, Persona 5 represented the next evolution of the Persona formula. Persona 5 Royal amplifies the stellar turn-based combat and masterful social mechanics, as well as the complex systems surrounding them. But it also adds new characters, story arcs, and a meaty post-game palace that ventures even deeper into the world’s lore to deliver the definitive way to experience Persona 5.

Of course we had to come right back to one of the most standout features of Persona 5, which is the incredibly stylish UI that later inspired a number of Japanese developers including Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai. Persona 5 Royal is an improvement overall, with tons of new content and gameplay balancing we never knew we needed, such as having gun ammo reload after every battle versus after a dungeon run.

Persona 5 Royale is a marvelous victory lap. The original was pure enjoyment, but Royal greatly enhances it. Now mind you, this isn’t some monumental change that the more casual players would want to reinvest another 100-150 hours into, but if you're looking for an extension of the story and a more robust, complete combat system, then Royal is for you. There’s a brand new party member and dungeon that offer a strong amount of variety and even Mementos has become a more realized component. Combat has been styled up even more with Showtime attacks and Disaster Shadows and even...

Persona 5 Royal is the complete P5 experience. Royal resolves elements that felt half-baked, bolsters the aesthetics, and decreases the few grumbles players had the first time around. Royal isn’t Persona 5 with some story DLC, but a hugely enjoyable new experience in its own right that any RPG fan with the time to see it through will enjoy. 9/10.

Persona 5 was already a strong front-runner for being the best JRPG ever made, and Royal really gets me wondering what else could even compete. The excellent story and its lovable, multidimensional characters along with the challenging, tactical combat are all refined and back for another round with new surprises and new friends in tow. There are new areas to explore and new twists to leave your jaw on the floor. Very little has been left untouched, and just about everything that has been touched is better off for it. The Phantom Thieves have stolen my heart all over again...
