Phoenix and gang are back in a compilation of their first 3 courtroom adventures that initially released almost 18 years ago.
Phoenix Wright's story and humor stand the test of time, but the graphical upgrades do it no favors. While voiceovers would be appreciated, the sound effects and dialogue are creative enough to make up for it.
The Ace Attorney Trilogy brings one of the best visual novels to PC.
The Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy may not offer too much in the way of new content for returning players but it does offer the best possible experience for those who have yet to play these amazingly well-written games.
Are you ready to feel old? Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney first released to western audiences on the Nintendo DS back in 2005. It’s well-known due to its high quality story-telling, unique spin on the visual novel genre and the large amount of spin-offs that it spawned, along with other series that modernised and ran with the trial concept like Danganronpa.
The Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy has finally made its way to the PlayStation 4, and as the name suggests it comes with three games in one – the original game and its two sequels “Justice for All” and “Trials and Tribulations”. A collection of Phoenix Wright’s cases, this bundle is an amazing deal and a great way for newcomers of the series to experience the story that everyone raved about on the Nintendo DS. Even though this is not the first time the trilogy has been brought to different consoles, its release on the PS4 allows those who only have a PS4 to enjoy this fantastic visual novel.
The sheer age of the games are beginning to count against them but Ace Attorney still remains exhibit A in how to make even the silliest story-based games fun and engaging.
Even though playing the Phoenix Wright Trilogy in 2019 reminds you how times have changed for the better, it is still a worthwhile compilation. Fifteen years after Phoenix Wright was brought to the West, its charm and strong narrative are still as resonant as it was in 2004. If you still have the original trilogy somewhere, you don’t need to rebuy this unless you’re a fanatic. But if you’re someone who never played a game in the series and want to know what the fuss is about? This is we...
Much like series protagonist Phoenix Wright, the Ace Attorney games are a somewhat unlikely success story. First launching in Japan under the name “Gyakuten Saiban” in 2001, the original Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was localized and re-released worldwide on Nintendo DS in 2005. Despite a general lack of fanfare surrounding the game, it found its niche, becoming an under-the-radar hit and introducing many Western gamers to the visual novel genre. Since then, there have been numerous Ace Attorney sequels, spinoffs, and crossovers, but for many fans the series’ first three games remain the gold standard.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a solid example of remastering done well. Capcom has successfully brought the game into the modern era without goofing up the core gameplay experience. It’s a wonderful pack of games with engaging stories, a timeless cast of characters, and a simple premise. For the sweet price of $29.99, it is well worth the investment for both new and old fans. Whether you’ve been defending the helpless for years or are fresh off the bar exam, the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a collection you don’t want to miss.
But such occurrences are infrequent enough not to be game ruining and while you shouldn’t count on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy being legally accurate, it’s a hell of a lot of fun. For all its silliness, there are some emotionally charged moments and, spread over the three games, some pleasingly solid character development.
Now built for consoles rather than exclusively as a handheld title, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy still maintains the same charm and gameplay the series has always been known for over the years while looking cleaner than ever.
If you’ve never experienced them before, then Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is an entertainingly compelling collection of courtroom-based visual novels with excellent writing and colourful characters who help paper over game mechanics that can at times be overly rigid and illogical. However, if you’ve already played these games – perhaps even more than once already – then there’s very little incentive to take this collection into your custody.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a bundle of the first three Phoenix Wright games, originally released on Game Boy Advance and then later revamped for Nintendo DS, making their way to a PlayStation console for the very first time. These classic adventure/visual novel titles follow a rookie defence attorney who's thrown into a series of high profile cases in which everything is rarely as it seems, and the deck is increasingly stacked against him.
Giving a whole new audience the chance to discover the exploits of fledgling defence lawyer Phoenix Wright and his bizarre world, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is fantastic. There's no reason to object to this, Your Honour. I rest my case.
Like many of you, I grew up with little knowledge of the Ace Attorney series besides the fact the game’s main catchphrase “Objection!” became a famous meme in the gaming circle. Being a dumb teenager back when those games were all the rage, I never felt interested in tackling them. Fast forward to more than a decade later, when I stumble upon an Ace Attorney remastered collection featuring the first three games in the Phoenix Wright subseries available for a very good price on the Japan...
Habeas corpus.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a complete and utter masterpiece, and not playing it should be considered a criminal offense in the gaming community.
