Red Rescue Team on Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Switch Online remains a nostalgic and enjoyable game for those who grew up with the original game, and are now looking for that nostalgic feeling. This game is ideal for players who prefer grinding games, especially those who are looking for a grind in the Pokémon franchise. However, this older game does not hold up to the entertainment value, diversity, and complexity of gameplay found in newer and better Pokémon games that are already on th...

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a polished and largely enjoyable experience but the gameplay loop soon grows stale and ultimately becomes a forgettable experience.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a pleasant remake of a pair of dungeon crawlers that, as I can see now, are a bit more dated than I originally thought they’d be. There is still a lot to love about this interesting spin on the Pokémon formula, but not enough for me to lose myself in the experience as I did once before.

In truth, it's a game that feels endless despite its relatively short core content. The gameplay may not be revolutionary, but it's the perfect game to kick back to and have a nice afternoon on the Switch with. Its story delivers on all the cutesy moments and heavy Pokemon themes fans have come to expect, while doing so in a perfectly crafted environment. Endgame content and expanding the rescue team keep Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX interesting well after it seems like the curtain has closed, and that's the crux of the game. It's hard to put down and...

POKEMON MYSTERY DUNGEON: RESCUE TEAM DX isn’t just a game with a too-long name, it’s also a remake of the 2005 Blue and Red Rescue Team Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance releases. With Pokemon titles usually standing the test of time, can the same be said for Rescue Team? Here’s our review after spending 14 hours completing the main story and a handful more exploring the endgame content.

As a remake, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX succeeds in recapturing the essence of the originals. I still felt a sense of urgency and stress when I was on the final floors of the Sky Tower trying to get to Rayquaza. There are also a few quality of life improvements along with new character sprites and a cell-shaded art style. Despite some balancing issues and a lack of ambition, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX still delivers the emotion and challenge that fans new and old will appreciate.

Rescue Team DX's charming story and beautiful visuals aren't good enough to carry the whole game by themselves, especially since the meat and potatoes here – the combat and dungeon crawling – are so repetitive and monotonous.

Ever wanted a Pokémon game without all the humans in it? Well, 15 years ago, Nintendo obliged by releasing Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team for the GBA and Blue Rescue Team for the Nintendo DS. Putting the focus squarely on the creatures this time around, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series were dungeon-crawlers where your team explores massive dungeons and rescues Pokémon in danger. Now, Nintendo has ported the content of the first two games into one package for the Nintendo Switc...

It has been nearly 15 years since the release of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team and nearly 5 years since the last installment of the series, Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon. Seeing as the Nintendo Switch has just celebrated its 3rd birthday, it’s about time it also got a little bit of love with, what I have always felt is, an underappreciated series. For those unaware, the Mystery Dungeon series is essentially a dungeon crawler, but every time you enter one, the layout of...

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a delightful update to a classic, and just the kick in the pants the series needed. It’s a return to what made the spinoff so beloved in the first place, from the emotional story to the difficult resource management and boss fights. With a gorgeous watercolor art style, the world of Pokémon has never looked better.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a retelling of two older titles that don't deserve to be remade in this manner. The dungeons are shallow, the presentation is lacking when you compare it to other Switch titles, but if you're looking for a relaxing dungeon-crawler with an interesting story, you might be comelled to try it out.

Let’s cut the 'Karp. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a delight that franchise fans will love, beautifully remastered for the Nintendo Switch. The gameplay might be repetitive, but it features a tale that will tug on your heartstrings and leave you feeling warm and fuzzy. So give the demo a try to see if you want to Ponyta up the cash, but it'll be well worth it as you watch the cute little wiggles, live through the heart-warming story, and savour the goregous watercolours that feels like you have your own Smeargle jamming your eyes full of art.

A thoroughly uninteresting roguelike that undermines the most compelling elements of both the genre and the Pokémon universe.

A gorgeous and charming game that unfortunately doesn't improve on enough of the original gameplay aspects to keep fans engrossed.

Pokémon is that rare franchise so prolific even some of its spinoff series are starting to get hard to keep track of. Case in point, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, which mash up monster collecting and roguelike dungeon exploration – the sub series has already been through five generations and 10 individual games and now it’s getting its first reboot, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX (a revamp of 2006’s Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team).

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is a remake that feels like putting a bandaid on a flawed game that badly needed major surgery instead. While the story and presentation have been drastically improved with fun characters and an impressive new art style, its core is still painfully dull. Key areas like dungeon crawling and combat are as monotonous and repetitive as ever, leaving Rescue Team DX a truly unremarkable, grindy experience.
