Look, here comes the hyperbole; you'll have to excuse us on this one, but Red Dead Redemption surely deserves heaped praise: this is a momentous gaming experience; one that marries artistry with supreme design rarely seen. If there's a textbook on how to be referent to a classic genre while always pressing forward, Red Dead Redemption is the byline. Wonderful.
Red Dead Redemption is hands down the best Western game to date, and it can hang with some of the best open-world games around.
Grand Theft not-so-Auto goes West... Ok ok, so it’s not quite Grand Theft Auto (GTA) simply transported to a Wild West setting, but [...]
Red Dead Redemption is Grand Theft Auto in the Wild West. We told ourselves over and over that opening the review in this way was a cop-out, but it's undeniable - Red Dead Redemption is Grand Theft Auto in the Wild-West. In many ways, however, it's also much more. Red Dead Redemption marries the detail of Grand Theft Auto IV with the criticism that followed it - the American West may lack cars and helicopters, but Red Dead Redemption is more alive than any other Rockstar game you've played before. The world is teeming with one-off, background events that may only occur once, but serve to enhance the belief in its world. This is a sandbox game without the staple that's made the genre so predictable - this is a game without repetition.
Red Dead Redemption hits like a bolt from the blue and absorbs like a swamp, leaving no doubt that it is the best virtual western in history.
Redemption provides an authentic Wild West experience that you'll find nowhere else. It's a shame that the multiplayer pales in comparison to the awesome single-player experience
Various ports after its original release, Red Dead Redemption is still very much alive. This PC port shows us one of the best versions of the game to date.
Red Dead Redemption on Switch is a straightforward port of 2010's masterpiece with no added bells or whistles for a rather high price tag. If you can get over that, this is a game we highly recommend digging into, especially if you've yet to experience it. Rockstar's Western epic holds up surprisingly well, its story is as powerful as ever, its knockabout action still feels great, and it looks and plays perfectly well on Nintendo's console. Multiplayer has been cut, which is a sore but understandable excision, and we'd really have liked to see effort put into adding gyro controls or touching up the graphics a little, but it is what it is. This is a proper all-timer ported successfully to Switch and, if you can stump up the cash, you'll have a great time here regardless of the lack of TLC.
The Switch port of Red Dead Redemption is a faithful way to get into the world of Red Dead. It looks good as long as you adjust expectations and consider the game’s age, and performs consistently well in both handheld and docked modes. While many aspects will feel dated, I still had a fun time exploring the old west with John during the last gasps of the American frontier.
Rockstar’s port of Red Dead Redemption on the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch provides an opportunity for both newcomers and fans alike to experience one of gaming’s most memorable adventures once again. While there are some improvements to the visuals and performance, remnants of the game’s age still bleed through. If you can look past the outrageous price tag and some cut content, then your journey back to the Wild West is definitely one worth taking.
Red Dead Redemption is a Western epic, set at the turn of the 20th century when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age.
I can happily say that I have avoided all the bugs, which I feared that I would have to plough through considering how it went with their last "remaster" which was neither successful nor bug-free, namely Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition which was a shame to even have to be involved in. There's no way to dislike this, Red Dead Redemption was a fantastic game and still is today, but this is a shameless cash grab like no other. Instead of just rolling out the exact same game that was released 13 years ago (at an outright ridiculous price), Rockstar should have worked on a fu…
Taking a barren wasteland of dust and wannabe outlaws and turning it into an open-world action-adventure title on the same level as Rockstar’s other open-world titles is no easy feat. Red Dead Redemption is a Wild West adventure title like no other though. Granted, it did face the trials and tribulations in its development process that saw the game get a meaty delay and rumours of Rockstar San Diego’s staff being overworked and mistreated seep onto the internet. It can’t be easy to deve...
