Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is simple and charming, but beneath the rather basic gameplay loop hides some surprisingly deep secrets. It brings back elements of farming games past, including marriage rivals and transient characters, while providing some major quality of life updates as well as a more freedom, such as limited character customization and a truly bizarre variety of farmyard pets. It’s a cozy, welcoming little village, sure to charm any farming fan.
The gameplay feels well-polished and each character will have you wanting to learn more about them. The very few hiccups I encountered as far as gameplay goes were nothing to keep me from enjoying the game immensely. It would be great to have just a few more quality of life changes, sure, but as far as what’s already in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, you can expect on the most enjoyable RPGs I’ve ever encountered. If ever there were a time to get away to a farm and lost in the...
This remaster retains its retro integrity while bringing the gameplay up to date, resulting in a charming experience that renews the roots of the farming genre and hold its own amongst modern entries
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a complete remake that lets series fans revisit the charming world of Mineral Town, while also introducing it to a new generation of farmers.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town might not re-invent the wheel, but it's an excellent reminder why the formula the original helped create is so beloved and long-lasting.

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a charming farming game that lives up to its original release. This remake succeeds because it improves upon the 2003 title. Farming and befriending townsfolk is as fun as it has ever been, and is as enjoyable for longtime fans as well as it is newcomers. There are many smart updates made to the title. Some are small, such as adding some new farm animals, while others are huge, such as finally allowing players to date any bachelor or bachelorette that strikes their fancy. All in all, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town succeeds as a lovely experience that's sure to become a new favorite.
A relaxing game, a brilliant remake, and if you like farming games you’ll be happy as a pig in mud.
Who says you can never go home again? Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral town takes an already great game in the storied franchise and throws it into HD, with a hefty bushel of new content along for the ride. Whether you're a nostalgic veteran like me or a greenhorn just starting out, Mineral Town is a worthy addition to your Switch library.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town oozes with charm and great gameplay mechanics that allow for an enjoyable farming simulator that remains a bit too simple at times.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town brings a classic back to life with 3D visuals and all of what people loved about it intact. But the comparative simplicity of the game's systems plus the high cost compared to similar games will possibly scare off players who don't already have a soft spot in their heart for the game.
Back in 2017, I reviewed Harvest Moon: Light of Hope, and was shocked with how bland that game ended up being. A series so well-known for featuring games that suck you in almost instantly having a title as undercooked as that one was really weird, but I now I understand why. That Harvest Moon isn’t exactly the one we so fondly remember from our childhood. That’s a “new” franchise created in 2007 by Natsume, which holds the rights to the Harvest Moon name, but not the actual games they...
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a must-play for both fans of the franchise, and gamers in love with farming oriented life-sims. It doesn't opt to break new ground, but instead play to its strengths, leaning on what made the experience great 17 years ago.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town takes one of the better-remembered entries in this storied franchise and gives it a fresh coat of adorable paint. While feeling more casual, and a bit held back by its roots, this is the perfect return for anyone fond of the original release.
It's been more than 15 years, but welcome back to Mineral Town. Things are mostly the way that you remember them, but say hello to a couple new faces, a couple new animals, and more. What you won't be saying hello to, at least not easily, are the mountain of things still locked behind arbitrary walls.
Sam Wachter finally had the chance to play Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town. She fell in love with a librarian, and got same-sex married. It was the best day and game ever... or was it?
Hands up who is currently addicted to Animal Crossing, because I certainly am! But with the new release of Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, I had to
I’ve been working alone on my farm for almost a year now, earning upwards of 2k just from sale of produce alone. Although the love of my life, Ran, still won’t even look at me, despite the fact that I drop by to give her fresh grapes every single morning. For the past few weeks I have packed away my copy of Animal Crossing and moved to a new town, a remake of the 2003 Game Boy Advance game, Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town (Harvest Moon now called Story of Seasons in the west). It’...
There’s a lot of joy to be had in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, but it doesn’t hand anything to you on a plate. You have to work hard for your rewards; just like life on a real farm, I suppose. It can feel repetitive at times; monotonously watering your plants and petting your animals takes its toll, but as you start to reach new milestones and see the fruits of your labour, Friends of Mineral Town takes on a new life. It’s not a game for everyone; it requires patience and perseverance. Progress feels much slower and measured than something like Stardew Valley, but it also means it offers potentially more longevity. If you’re looking for something to sink hours into and enjoy a slow, steady stroll rather than an action-packed sprint, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town might just be for you.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a fun blast to the past if you’re full of nostalgia for the original game like I am. Unfortunately, if you’re lacking that nostalgia, it may be a little underwhelming, especially if you’re comparing it to more modern farming simulators and the repetition of farming on such a small map can get monotonous after a while. However, if you’re willing to look past that, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a fun, cute, and charming experience that will take you straight back to 2003 in the best possible way.
After being pleasantly surprised by the adorable Story of Seasons Doraemon spin-off, I couldn't wait to dive into the next Switch game in the franchise which just happens to be this remake of a classic.
The presentation is a bit disappointing, as the 3D models are very basic and rounded, which somewhat deflates the appealing Harvest Moon art style. The 2D art used for dialogue portraits is perfectly fine, it’s just the plump models that feel needlessly simplistic. The music is suitably charming though, as the soundtrack works in tandem with the chill atmosphere of Friends of Mineral Town.
Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town is one of the first games I ever gained an obsession for in my life. To this day, the original 2003 cartridge is still sitting in the Game Boy Advance in my nightstand, and every once in a while I’ll pull it out for nostalgic farming joy. It was my first introduction to the Harvest Moon series, and as a lifelong veteran of this franchise, I still hold it as one of the best installments. For reasons you can read about here, Harvest Moon is now known as Story of Seasons, and Friends of Mineral Town is being released as a remake on the Switch under its new series moniker. I was initially overjoyed to see that one of my favorite childhood games — specifically, the one responsible for my persistent love for farming sims — was being remade for the new age, but after jumping into the recent version, there may be something to be said for leaving this game in the past.
Despite its age, simplicity, and lack of embellishments, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town proves the BokujÅ Monogatari franchise has been on the money since the very beginning. Its content may feel a little sparse compared to its successors and competitors, but I can see myself returning to these lands long after the next harvest moon.
The Story of Seasons series is at its best when it pushes the genre forward and provides new and exciting opportunities to players. Friends of Mineral Town feels flat and simplistic as a result of trying too hard to emulate the game it’s based on. Although there is a fair amount of freedom to play the game as you see fit, it’s difficult to recommend the latest Story of Seasons entry over something like Stardew Valley or even the two 3DS games. In-game achievements, hidden items to collect, and an easy mode are all welcome features; ultimately, though they don’t contribute enough to make…
