The Dark Pictures Anthology have been providing us scares since Man of Medan back in 2019. While Man of Medan wasn’t able to quite capture the magic of Until Dawn, it was still a fun romp through B-movie territory. The Dark Pictures Anthology then took a hit with the underwhelming Little Hope, which aside from the improved controls and QTEs, featured and overreliance on jumpscares and a somewhat recycled twist from an earlier title. Thankfully, the team at Supermassive listened to their ...

A group of documentary film makers receive a mysterious call inviting them to a modern-day replica of serial killer H.H. Holmes ‘Murder Castle’. But on arrival they soon discover they’re being watched, and even manipulated, and suddenly there is much more at stake than just their ratings. A brutal season finale with surprisingly palatable characters, but some issues with the narrative and buggy graphics keep it from its full potential. PS4 copy reviewed.

In conclusion, without a doubt, this is the best Dark Anthology game so far and a true climax to season one.  Not only fans of the series but fans of the genre will love playing this.  The acting, visual detail, sound design and writing could not be bettered here.  Series mechanics have not only been improved but also extended delivering an extra level of depth to a fantastic experience.  In short developer, Supermassive Games has delivered a horror classic that will keep players on the edge of their seats for hours.

Easily the best of The Dark Pictures anthology series, with a horror story that is deliciously chilling, surprisingly well acted, and far more interesting to play than its predecessors.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me is the season finale of The Quarry and Until Dawn developer Suppermassive’s first horror anthological series. It’s more of the same known formula: control a group of individuals in a horrific and deathly setting, making choices and completing QTE prompts to hopefully make it out alive. While being quite familiar, The Devil in Me actually mostly pulls it off, providing the best setting and experience in the anthology series yet.

As the strongest entry yet, Devil in Me is a great finale for Season One of The Dark Pictures Anthology. With an original story and some showstopping sequences, the game is a step up for the series, despite some minor technical and animation issues. Fans of the franchise and horror in general should not hesitate to pick this one up, as Supermassive shows the true potential of its anthology experiment.

The Devil in Me is the final chapter of The Dark Pictures Anthology Season 1 and Supermassive’s second game of 2022, coming hot on the heels of the widely successful The Quarry. While The Devil in Me mightn’t hit those same heights — and that’s largely due to its budget, I’d wager — it is undeniably the best from The Dark Pictures to date.

The Dark Pictures: The Devil in Me packages an enigmatic killer, stories of true crime, the spectacle of horror movies, and a group of shy misfits and powerful personalities into a plot that feels deserving of its own big-budget film. It'll leave players questioning everything they know about the killer and each other, and yearning to dive in once again to see other endings, discover more secrets, and try to save everyone.

Rarely putting a foot wrong in terms of production and storytelling, we’ve loved every moment we’ve spent with The Devil in Me, an absolutely wonderful conclusion to The Dark Pictures Anthology’s first season. Its story is the most captivating and the most well-realised; so much work has gone into crafting characters and locations, and the sheer goriness will delight and horrify in equal measures. Supermassive Games continues to go from strength to strength, and with The Devil in Me, the studio has cemented itself as a master of the horror genre.

Two final girl sprints forward and one terrified limp back, The Devil in Me is the strongest Dark Pictures to date, but still feels like Supermassive are yet to find the right balance between fun and frights, camp and terror, and interactivity and storytelling.

The Devil in Me not only sticks the landing for The Dark Pictures Anthology, but it does so with a highly-improved game that shows off the potential of this series, feeling like a culmination of every lesson Supermassive has learned along the way. The story is a nicely-captivating and tense thriller, new gameplay touches like the individual inventories are great additions, the setting is creepy with a lot of attention to detail, and overall, it just feels like a lot of fun. The real-life H.H. Holmes may not have been the grand killer we imagine him as, but the myth...

With four instalments under its belt, The Dark Pictures Anthology from Supermassive Games feels like a roller coaster. Following an underwhelming start in Man of Medan, the horror series was getting better and better with Little Hope and House of Ashes. It appears, however, the latter may have been the peak of what the franchise has to offer — at least as the first season comes to an end. The Devil in Me does neither its setting nor inspirations justice, with a campaign that at times feels plodding and far too safe.
