Don't mess with Victor Vran or this hat-wielding hunter might smash you with a hammer or rock you like a hurricane with his skull-shooting guitar. This over-the-top third-person looter has a lot of personality, in case you couldn't tell.

Victor Vran: Overkill Edition is a robust, enjoyable dungeon crawler with satisfying combat mechanics, marred only by a single, albeit quite major bug on Xbox One. This issue aside, Victor Vran is genuinely excellent.

Victor Vran is a great game to kill-time — since you have to keep on dodging, attacking, picking up loots, activating regeneration statues and the sort — and is really fun once you get the hang of it. It’s got a lot of potential, too. Maybe balancing out the scaling system would be great. Graphics is solid, really made an impression on me. The fun and challenging aspect of Victor Vran covers what seemed to lack in its narrative.

It's a good romp run through ruins and wreaking havoc with demon powers, but does not provide much more substance than that.

In the end, Victor Vran is a great action RPG that should be considered. It is not the best out there currently but it is has unique aspects and contains hours of fun.

Victor Vran shows that Haemimont Games have more in their arsenal than just city building with dictators. As far as Diablo clones go, it isn’t of the same calibre as Path of Exile due to its rather simplistic nature and the overabundance of the six primary enemy types, but it does feature some neat gameplay twists of its own. It’s worth a look if you are starved of action RPGs, with the emphasis on action.

It certainly doesn’t get to join the elite group, but if you’re after some ARPG entertainment, it more than fits the role. I’m far from finished, after spending a hefty amount of time with it, so there’s a lot on offer here, not least with the incentive to replay older sections to perfection. Turn the voices down, put a podcast on, and sink in.

Victor Vran is far from a complete game. Despite the presence of magic it is no Elder Scrolls or Final Fantasy, lacking the freedom to explore, story and diversity of these titles. Where the game excels is in its fast, frantic combat and the continual growth of skills, weapon upgrades and magical powers which make the battles increasingly diverse and rewarding. If you enjoy melee action you will enjoy Victor Vran. I certainly did.
