Wipeout is a surprisingly unique racing game. Given its initial release way back in 1995, and its cult popularity, you’d think someone would have tried to imitate its style by now. Maybe it was too hard to mimic, or maybe other developers respected the series enough to leave it alone, either way, there hasn’t been much like it, until the Wipeout Omega Collection landed on PS4.
There are a couple of nitpicks too many against Wipeout Omega Collection from being a flawless package, but the sheer hours of racing that you’ll get from the game, how gorgeous it looks and how well the mechanics hold up earn it an easy and complete recommendation anyways.
Wipeout and PlayStation go hand in hand. Since 1995, this adrenaline-fuelled futuristic racer features on all of Sony's consoles and although we've had to
Thanks to its stunning visuals, electrifying soundtrack and exhilarating and addictive gameplay, the Wipeout Omega Collection is one of the best racing titles this generation.
Wipeout Omega Collection pulls together some of the series’ most recent highlights and uses the power of the PlayStation 4 Pro to keep the franchise on the technological bleeding edge – and it does so in spectacular fashion. This feels like far more than a tentative step towards a fully-fledged new entry, proving that as long as there’s PlayStation, there should be Wipeout.

The WipEout series has always stood out amongst its peers by offering unique, fast-paced, and varied racing. Although fans won't get a new experience here, is being treated to a graphically superior collection good enough to tide them over?
All told, this is a content-rich collection, one that is especially worth investing in for WipEout newcomers. Longtime players might feel fatigue from tracks that have seen repeated use over the years, but even then, I’d argue the audio and visual polish present in Omega Collection makes it worthwhile — with or without a 4K-ready setup. The dream of the ’90s is alive at PlayStation.
If ever there was a game to test your reflexes, aim, and driving skills, all compacted into one incredibly fast experience, WipEout has always been the challenge with which to measure yourself against. With ultra-high speed cover cars on gorgeous magnetic tracks, WipEout has been a staple of the racing games since 1995 and as technology has evolved, so too has this phenomenal series. Developed by Sony Studio Liverpool, WipEout has enjoyed success across a number of platforms and iterations to the series, and with the further advancement of 4K TV and the power of the PS4 Pro, WipEout has been taken to a new level with an extremely well-crafted collection that manages to feel like one massive, full throttle experience as opposed to three games loosely wired together.
Once upon a time, there was a game called WipEout. It screamed in to our homes in 1995 as a launch title for the original PlayStation, assaulting our senses (in a good way) with its ridiculously fast-paced gameplay and pulsating techno soundtrack, and proved so popular that it spawned eight sequels.
Could you argue that not enough of this game is new for fans of the series – especially when Sony has the VR headset now and a speedy racer would be such a great thing for it? Probably. You probably could argue that. But this is still a package of three of the best twitch racers out there, and given that we need to wait for Sony to find a new home for the WipeOut series, this will keep us going just fine in the meantime, you’d think.
The WipEout Omega Collection is a great bundle of racing games that still hold up quite well today. Returning fans of the franchise will find that the racing is as good as it ever was, but may be disappointed with the lack of extras included. Newcomers who are interested in giving the series a shot will find WipEout to be unlike any other racing game currently on the market, which is oddly refreshing for a collection of old games. All in all, the WipEout Omega Collection does its job as a remaster bundle even if it does feel sparse with bonus content.

It's brutally old school and will push your hand-eye to the limit, but Wipeout Omega Collection represents style, substance and value for money in equal measure. This is a glorious homecoming of a flagship PlayStation title, an unmissable synaesthetic treat for your ear and eye holes that earns its light-seizure warnings. Your Star Wars prequel memes are mistaken. THIS is pod racing. The PS4 version of this game was played for the purpose of this review.
The WipEout Omega Collection brings together the three latest instalments in the long-running, futuristic racer and unleashes them onto the PS4. Consisting of WipEout HD from the PS3, the hefty Fury expansion, and the Vita launch-title WipEout 2048, the Omega Collection packs a generous amount of content into a relatively cheap package ($55 here in Australia). Adding an incredible visual sheen (4K on the PS4 Pro!) and streamlining the three experiences into one cohesive package, this remast...
