Nintendo Switch is no stranger to DLC and add-on content, but few expansions are as vast in their size and content as Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - The Golden Country. Whether you’re a season pass holder looking to revisit a series you love from a new perspective, or you’re fresh to the franchise and want a standalone adventure, this hefty slice of JRPG action will grab you right from the moment you start switching between Blade and Driver. With some welcome adjustments to combat and combos, this is a fine addition to an already brilliant game on Switch.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 does a lot of things right, but suffers under its own weight and poor design decisions. Despite everything it's the first exclusive jRPG worth owning for the Switch, and with a little more polish it could be one of the best jRPGs of the last few years.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is an absolute gem that every Switch owner should have. Prepare to get lost in the amazing world, characters, plot, and battle system as you seek to find Elysium.

Monolith Soft has crafted a game in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that takes the very best of JRPG elements and mixes it with some of the open world massiveness we've seen in titles like Horizon: Zero Dawn and Breath of the Wild this year. As a standalone title in the Xenoblade series, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 gets a very high recommendation from us to both fans of the series and...

A captivating setting, engrossing narrative, and a complex and deeply addictive combat system help define Xenoblade Chronicles 2 as one of the best JRPGs of this generation.

While Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is easily one of the best RPGs released this year, it sometimes suffers from an embarrassing level of fanservice.

With its deep story and gigantic sprawling world filled with beasts to explore, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 caps off a pretty fantastic launch year for the Nintendo Switch, showing that the big JRPG franchise is more than capable of captivating fans in this generation. While there is some annoying voice acting and a pretty steep learning curve with the many combat mechanics, these only detract slightly from what is an enjoyable journey from start to finish.

No matter where you are, the soundtrack is phenomenal, with Yasunori Matsuda leading a team of composers including ACE, Kenji Hiramatsu, and Manami Kiyota to produce over one hundred separate pieces that shift from frenetic rock, through ambient dance to melancholic piano. It’s marvellous stuff, not only helping to set the tone for the story, but also lending itself to making the horizon feel just a touch more alluring.

While it’s definitely got its flaws, and it doesn’t quite reach the same exceptional standards as its predecessor, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is definitely worth playing. With robust, customizable combat, fun characters and an interesting story, and huge environments to explore, it’s one of the best games on the Switch and an excellent RPG.

In some ways a backwards step from its immediate predecessor, but this is still a fascinatingly complex Japanese role-player with the best open world since Breath Of The Wild.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a standout RPG that manages to keep its story, combat, and exploration interesting over the course of at least 70 hours of adventure through an impressively varied and rich world. Getting from place to place can be confusing, but outside of that and a multi-hour progression roadblock near the end this is an excellent game full of tough, memorable battles and a positive message.

Attacking on Titans After the eventual huge success of Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, developer Monolith Soft went in a different direction for what can now clearly be considered a side game in Xenoblade Chronicles X that didn't sit well...

This first year of Switch releases has been insane. Just factoring in Zelda and Mario alone it’s been a good year, but when you consider the other titles Nintendo put into the line up this year, it just might be the best first year for a console, well, ever. And for most of the year, I’ve been saying that all I really need for the line up to be complete is a big RPG. Sure, Skyrim took the edge off my cravings for a while, but I’ve played it before. I needed something brand new. So thank goodness for Xenoblade...

Xenoblade Chronicles X feels like a truly breathtaking effort, evidenced by how much love has gone into crafting each and every inch of its massive planet. And it's a planet that Nintendo and Monolith Soft have made worth exploring and worth learning. It's not for everyone, as the story gets off to a slow start. In fact, expect the story to last well over 40 hours. The game also doesn't waste much time with tutorials. Players aren't left entirely to the wolves, but the combat, equipment, stats, and party system is far more complex than the simplistic tutorial tips let...
