Biped is a cooperative game full of fun and suitable for kids and kids at heart. My only wish is that there was more to enjoy.
‘Biped’, by definition, means using two legs to walk — a concept not unique in games, obviously, but this game is a physics-based puzzle game in which wal
In times like these that we are currently living, in which we are constantly looking for casual entertainment in order to divert ourselves from the chaos ensuing outside of our homes, I can’t stress how refreshing it is to play something as light-hearted and charming as Biped. Just like last year’s Horace, this is one of those small indie titles I wouldn’t have ever heard of if it wasn’t for a press release sent to my inbox. I’m oh so grateful for finding out about it.
Co-op games come in all sorts of varieties but I bet you haven't played one quite like the incredibly charming and super-fun Biped.
Biped is polished to a beautiful finish on the outside, but struggles somewhat with what it wants to be on the inside. Too much of its challenge is built around coming to terms with its controls rather than utilizing them to do interesting things. If you’re a fan of clever puzzle-platformers and have a co-op partner who is the same, then Biped is bound to bring you hours of delight. If you can quieten that whisper in your brain going “but why can’t you just jump”, then the game’s inventive puzzles and clever iterations on its mechanics will easily win you over. It’s almost sad that Next Studios doesn’t seem to be interested in sticking with this genre, or outputting something else that’s happy and co-op based in the near future: they’ve certainly proved with Biped that they’re very good at it.
Biped is a unique co-op physics puzzler that has some wonderfully original ideas. A fascinating control scheme equally frustrates and delights, though it's absolutely essential in providing puzzle mechanics that you won't find anywhere else. It's just a shame that those ideas haven't been pushed, refined and developed a little more.
