Batman Arkham VR is one hell of an experience. It’s definitely one of my favourite VR launch titles due to the fact that it takes a set of well-known characters and lets you engage with them and Gotham like you’d never thought was possible. It’s something that every gamer or comic book enthusiast needs to experience. Overall, I was left wanting more and I definitely think that there was more potential with the gadgets that the game provides, but I was satisfied with how immersive the game is, which after all is the main intention of VR.
A short but stunning 90-minute experience that truly lets you 'Be the Batman'.
It's really short and you won't get much replay value, but being Batman even for one a night, and in a more passive role, is still pretty cool.
Batman: Arkham VR offers some fun puzzles and use of tools, but its lack of action scenes and short running time keep the game from really making you feel like Batman.
They say the only sure thing in life is death and taxes. I beg to differ. One other sure thing in life is that every little boy, at one time or another has wanted to be Batman. Batman: Arkham VR is the closest yet that any of us have come to truly becoming the Bat. It is a short experience (as short as one hour) that puts you solely in the shoes of Gotham City’s most esteemed hero and is one that you’ll wish hadn’t ended so quickly once the credits roll.
The Arkham series has already done a great job at putting players in the role on Batman, but the level of immersion in Batman: Arkham VR takes things to the next level.
While Rocksteady may be moving on from Batman to a Superman game or something else entirely, Batman: Arkham VR proves that the studio still had at least one more engaging Batman story left to tell. It's a compelling virtual reality experience that is a great way to sell people on the potential of the technology, and while it has some issues, like occasionally spotty motion controls and a short play time, it's still a must-have title for anyone's PlayStation VR library.
In Arkham VR, you are Batman like never before, thanks to Rocksteady’s convincing virtual reality and an involving story full of satisfying moments.
Become the Batman, again.
Being Batman in Akrham VR is a great way to more intimately experience Rocksteady's universe and to search for clues in this brief mystery. However, the world and characters around you are largely rigid and unresponsive to your actions, which leaves a lot on the table for a game about a character known as much for his brawn as he is for his brains.
Rocksteady's never been shy depicting Batman as the mentally deranged individual that he so clearly is, and with the British studio back on development duties for this short virtual reality story, it's Bruce Wayne's busted psyche that once again takes centre stage. Batman: Arkham VR may only take you about an hour to see through, but this is borderline essential material for fans of the franchise's gritty fiction.
If Rocksteady is prepping me for what’s to come with Batman: Arkham VR, I’m sold already. A massive amount of time was spent on this project, and anyone who calls it a mere tech demo is doing it a disservice.
Perhaps the only real disappointment about Batman: Arkham VR is that it’s over so soon, but there is certainly plenty of value for fans of the game in replaying and searching for secrets. As more of a detective story, it’s a very different exploration of the world of Batman than we’ve seen before – I’m feeling a sense of déjà vu here – letting you embody the character for the first time.
What would a Batman game be like if his feet were glued to the floor? That may sound like one of the worst decisions a developer could ever make, but Rocksteady Studios turns this improbable scenario into an engaging experience in Batman: Arkham VR, a short narrative-driven game designed exclusively for PlayStation VR.
