Have you ever wanted to take charge of a mounted knight and ride into battle like an action movie hero? Or perhaps you fancy yourself an archer, sniping enemies from afar? As long as it's medieval combat, Chivalry 2 has got you covered. Nearly two years after the original release the game still boasts an active player base, and receives innovative content updates guaranteeing the lighthearted slaughter doesn't seem stale.

Chivalry 2 is an incredibly fun, objective-based first-person war game. Players should remember that they won’t find the melee finesse of something like For Honor or dominate the whole map solo. Every match moment will be an over-the-top action sequence, where bodies will fly, characters roar with laughter, and nothing will make any real sense.

As it stands now, Chivalry II is a thrilling and addictive experience that’s hard to put down once you’ve acclimated to the sheer terror of battle, and it’s only getting better over time. The public roadmap promises new game modes and weapon types before the end of the year. And sometime next year, there will be new maps and even horses added to the mix.

With a simple, yet fairly deep, combat system at its heart, Chivalry 2 is a great piece of multiplayer mayhem that will surely capture the hearts of many. The lack of any true depth may deter veterans of other similar games, but most will find a hugely enjoyable medieval romp that has plenty of room to grow. The current crop of maps is limited to attack/defend objectives with two arenas thrown in for good measure. Duel servers offer a more honourable way to play, but lack that sense of ‘’anything goes’’ found in the main game modes.

As a casual fan of the first Chivalry game, I was hoping for more clarity and polish in the sequel. While the chaotic bloodbath is fun and will keep me popping back in for a game or two, functionally similar objectives, limited game types, and the lack of certainty that my inputs will register is frustrating enough to keep Chivalry 2 from becoming something I’d play for more than a few rounds at a time.

Chivalry 2 is a ton of fun, not overly complicated and will keep you coming back for more.

First and foremost, Chivalry 2 is an excellent medieval fighting game. The combat system is incredibly rewarding and nuanced, with a wide array of weapons

Whether you’ve always been a medieval combat fanatic, or you love games like the Call of Duty and Battlefield franchises but wished for them to go back in time a few centuries, it’s hard to go too far wrong with Chivalry II. Just be mindful of that bloodthirsty knight that spawned right next to you!

Chivalry 2 delivers plenty of intense, blood-soaked action, without taking itself too seriously. But you might eventually want to do more than blindly swing a sword around.

Chivalry 2 shines in the combat department. Combat is fast, and the high ceiling of learning it all helps keep players invested. There may not be a ton of maps, but they are full, the movement of gameplay is refreshingly fun, and the promise of more post-launch content keeps me hopeful.

Go out without a limb in Chivalry 2's glorious medieval battles.

Chivalry 2 improves upon the original release by a good margin, but it still needs to work out some bugs and kinks. For those looking for some medieval madness, it might be best to wait for some more patches before diving in.

Those that enjoy games that are bloody, bombastic, and have a pinch of humor will find an excellent experience in Chivalry 2. It's approachable, smooth, and an excellent time with friends. Plus, there's the promise of free content on the horizon, which should make the current offering even more appealing to those that engage with it. While there are some minor technical issues to be sorted out here and there, it's still one of the most enjoyable experiences to come out of 2021 so far.

Chivalry 2 is a sword-slashing blast to play, with tons of intense modes and bloody battles.

Nine years ago Torn Banner Studios released Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. What started off as a free mod from one of Valve’s engines became a huge cult hit. Torn Banner had created its own genre in a multiplayer space which mainly focused on guns. Being able to go into a multiplayer war as a Knights with swords, spears, and bows while goring your opponents felt fresh. Chivalry’s popularity spawned some copycats that looked to enhance the genre, like Mordhau which I really enjoyed. However,...

Chivalry 2 prides itself on its chaotic, yet comedic world. It’s a glorious battle cry for gaming, with its spectacularly vicious combat, amazingly detailed maps and particularly awesome performance on PlayStation 5. An early contender for Game of the Year for sure.

I don’t know if I’m just a bit of a hermit, but it’s rare that I actually sink my teeth into an exclusively multiplayer experience. Sure, some of it is just not wanting to deal with toxic people in chat. However, some of it comes down to the feeling that multiplayer tends to sacrifice the individual experience in favour of larger servers. Chivalry 2 shows that you can have both mechanical complexity and large servers, though it is not without some frustrations.

Chivalry 2 is a game of chaos. But is there more than that? Brian took the medieval battle game for a spin in our review.

The melee combat may not be as technical or strategic as some hardcore fans might like, yet it’s hard to deny the appeal of Chivalry 2’s dismembering deathmatches. Those first few sieges are truly enthralling as watch waves of red and blue troops smash against each other. Over time it may lose its edge though Chivalry 2 is still one of the most fun and unique multiplayer games out there.

Chivalry, in theory, is a code of conduct and honor that knights and other mythic figures of European history would follow. Its existence lead to the belief in noble knights that would protect the innocent, fight dragons, and generally do good. That was rarely the case, and Chivalry 2 has about as much honor as that metal-clad soldiers of the past did. And it is so much fun.

A first-person slasher for Monty Python fans rather than reenactors, Chivalry 2's unswerving dedication to fun and goofiness makes it a rare treat in modern multiplayer gaming.

I absolutely love this game. Torn Banner has nailed things with a mix of great gameplay, hilarious sounds, ridiculous weapon pick-ups, and an engaging leveling system. It is 99.9% meant to be played online against other people, as there is no campaign mode. For $40 at launch there is more than enough content here to satisfy anyone interested in the premise. If the thought of chopping off heads, picking them up, and running around with them as you scream like a maniac sounds good to you, then go seek help, that help being playing Chivalry 2 of course.

I often hear folks talk about their "comfort food game" – that game in which they can turn their mind off and just go at it for pure good feels and satisfaction. I feel like Chivalry 2 is that game for me. If it was even just that it’s a game in which I can pulp a folk or two with a big honkin’ sword, axe, or whatever I can get my mitts on to often hilarious effect, I would be satisfied. That said, Torn Banner and Tripwire Interactive have poured no shortage of love into this game’s environments, objectives, classes, and player customization. It’s that dedicated level of support that will keep me coming back to the game and crossing swords for a long time to come.
