Dark Souls III: The Ringed City Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Dark Souls III: The Ringed City is a fitting conclusion to a series that has been my go-to for years. With a great mix of new enemies, challenging bosses, and rewarding exploration, it’s definitely an improvement over the previous Ashes of Ariandel expansion—something that will surely satisfy fans.
If The Ringed City really is the end of Souls, it manages to hang its head high with the rest of the series. From Demon‘s to Dark III we have more than enough macabre settings to pore over in the years to come. They aren’t all created equal, and some of them aren’t even created by Hidetaka Miyazaki, but I’ll remember each and every one of them for as long as I live. It’s been a wild ride.
The Ringed City feels like Hidetaka Miyazaki's send off to the Souls series. It's been a hell of a ride.
Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City has found a way to revisit the past without a cheap reliance on nostalgia, wrapping up the story of Dark Souls in a way that will be satisfying for fans who enjoy digging into the rich lore the series has been building for the last few years. But you don’t need an encyclopedic knowledge of the Souls series to appreciate the satisfying twists and turns of this short, but exciting adventure, with its abundance of haunting, secret-filled locales and terrifying boss fights.
As satisfying an ending as Dark Souls was ever going to get, with some shocking story revelations and memorable boss battles.
From moment one, The Ringed City wants you to know you’re not welcome here. The ancient city has clearly survived for eons, cultivating its own unique culture, and its own unique set of horrors. Deformed, beastly men still talk with a calm, sullen voice, one that embraces the end instead of avoids it, and Judicators sit and watch, summoning their firing squad should any undead ash march their way.
One of the best series of the last decade goes quietly into the night.
FromSoftware's epic series of challenging action RPGs has supposedly come to an end with this latest DLC. The Ringed City is definitely a memorable albeit brief adventure so let's journey forth to the land of ash and see what it has to offer.
