Dead Space 3 feels more complete than the previous games in the series. Fans had a lot of worries once they heard that the game would incorporate co-op and would feature micro transactions but majority of what has been added is extremely welcome in creating a more well rounded game. Visceral have added enough new puzzles and introduced new necromorphs at the right time to make the game feel fresh from start to finish. Even though I didn’t love the addition of human enemies (as it just isn’t as fun as cutting off Necromorphs limbs), I didn’t feel like it...

Dead Space 3 is the finale to the original version of this horror series! While it runs fantastic on the Steam Deck, it does require a 3rd party DRM and needs to be online.

Devoid of ideas, hung up on laborious combat and obsessed with making even the exciting seem boring.

Battling through the hordes of Necromorphs while attempting to maintain your sanity against the Marker's influence has always been the highlight of the Dead Space franchise, but it seems that the developers have striped away from that concept. Instead you get a story that doesn't meet the same stellar quality as previous Dead Space games but maintains the same presentation. The new weapon crafting system and excellent combat allows for some amazing fights, especially when you bring a friend along. In addition you have an array of optional missions, collectable items, cooperative missions and 4 different modes to contend with....

For the first couple hours, Dead Space 3 is nearly perfect: a tremendous blend of varied experiences in the haunting emptiness of derelict ships. However, as the story trudges towards its conclusion — which is completely absurd, by the way — it starts to lose steam. The enemy encounters become more like a horde mode, the variety of enemy types decreases in each encounter, and Isaac's constant need to run errands will grate on player's nerves. Co-op is a fine addition, but most purists will prefer to play Dead Space alone, which makes the obviously co-op focused design a major...

It’s shifted the focus to action without fully understanding how to make an action game work, resulting in a game that develops slowly from start to finish, and, at least as far as the combat goes, never does anything to surprise you. I was very sceptical before I played Dead Space 3, but I oh-so-desperately wanted to love it. Unfortunately, it never does anything to earn moderate positive feelings, let alone something approaching love, and instead it offers a vapid experience: one that lo...

The Marker-corrupted creatures, many of whom we’ve seen before in the previous installments, bring numerous new tactics to the table this time around. The Necromorphs and their appearance on the planet of Tau Volantis breathe new life into the game’s alien slaying combat. Being that Tau Volantis is covered in snow, you must keep on the look out and listen carefully for hints for oncoming enemies. The tiniest ripple in the snow will signal their presence before they suddenly emerge to attack you. The visibility when exploring outside isn’t always clear, particularly so when heavy blizzards are pushing you around....

The combat system and the world Visceral has crafted in Dead Space 3 is so expertly built and well-wrought, I found myself consciously overlooking my main criticisms, because I love playing it and spending time with it. This is an important distinction to make: loving a game while being fully aware of its faults. Dead Space 3, when played the way I've been playing it, on New Game+, is an engrossing and satisfying experience. But it requires ignoring the bad story and the numbing to-do lists. It then becomes all about building up the most powerful, best outfitted Isaac you...

Before you go on to read my final review score I would like to clarify that this review was based on the PC version of the game. I have no doubt that I would have enjoyed the console version more but I'm not about to buy the game twice just to prove that. Everything from the controls to the textures are a total letdown on the PC, a real kick in the teeth for computer-based Dead Space fans.

Creeping along a creaky, decaying corridor in near-darkness, surveying the walls for the slightest flicker of a shadow, listening intently for suspicious noises... That's what made Dead Space such a fine entry in the survival horror series upon its release in 2008, but it's something that seems to be sorely lacking in Dead Space 3. While fears that the series is leaning more towards action prove unfounded, you can't help but feel that Visceral Games pours things on a little too thick during t...

The Dead Space franchise gets further and further away from its roots by trading in tension for action. Dead Space 3 will leave long-time fans bewildered, while offering the spectacle that will appeal to a wider audience.

Dead Space 3 falls short of Visceral Games' ambitions, offering a sequel that is mildly fun but sadly bogged down by numerous flaws.
