Earth Defense Force 6 is easily the best game the series has seen so far, and it attains that title in an unexpected way. While its gameplay could be charitably described as a continuation of EDF 5 (or a complete rehash, if you want to be mean for some reason), the way it uses its narrative to repeatedly spin things in surprising ways drastically changes the feel and flow of the mission-to-mission gameplay. It’s still the same loveable mix of possibly deliberate tokusatsu campiness and jank, but something’s different this time. If you’ve never been able to decide if the...

A brand new Earth Defense Force game is out, and I honestly believe it couldn’t have been dropped at a better time. Be it due to a barrage of depressing news in the gaming sphere, as well as the current implosion seen by some AAA titles being released at broken states or merely underdelivering, there’s nothing better than just playing a game that knows it’s silly, stupid, a bit janky, but above all else, simple and fun. Earth Defense Force 6 is just that, cathartic dumb fun… at least ...

If you enjoy third-person shooting with lots of alien insects to blast then EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 is here so let's see how it holds up.

Earth Defense Force 6 is one of those games that I will never get tired of, as I have gone back to every single game in the series time and time again. As a whole, Earth Defense Force deserves way more attention, and I can't imagine there's anyone who wouldn't like it. If you like cheesy dialogue, giant monsters/bugs, and shooting progressively crazier weaponry, give this one a shot.

EDF 6 is, without a doubt, the very best entry in the series so far. Tremendous fun from top to bottom, from beginning to end, it is everything an EDF fan could have hoped for.

The 3D action-shooter "EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6" takes place several years after the events of "EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 5”. In "EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 5", mankind successfully defeated the unknown invaders that suddenly attacked them. Though the EDF and the humans were able to stave off their enemies, only 10% of the world population remained, leaving humankind at the brink of extinction. Humanity defied the odds by defending Earth, but what remained was not a future of hope and recovery, but one of continued clashes with lingering alien colonists. With a looming threat on the horizon, can humanity overcome their despair...

It’s the same old EDF in terms of graphics, gameplay, and the swarm of (mostly intentional) bugs but online co-op and a mountain of content means it still holds a special charm.

Earth Defense Force feels like a relic of a bygone era. An era of arcade shooters with the sole purpose of throwing shapes, colours and sounds in your general direction. Ever since 2003’s Monster Attack, franchise dev Sandlot has gathered a faithful fanbase, who ignore the technical shortcomings and revel in a varied class system and wealth of customisation options. Oh, and mindlessly destroying thousands of giant insects.

Earth Defense Force 6 is an arcade third-person shooter providing dozens of hours of bug-blasting fun. The humorous B-movie charm excuses much of the sloppy writing, though the game's tone and mission structure can get repetitive. Its 130 missions can be played via four-player online co-op or old school split-screen, completely avoiding live service elements that plague our industry today.

At the end of the day, Earth Defense Force 6 is more Earth Defense Force. It delivers everything longtime Earth Defense Force fans could want, though people that haven't been impressed by the series so far are not going to care for this entry either. Anyone hoping for Earth Defense Force 6 to take the EDF franchise in bold new directions may be disappointed, but it's sure to please longtime fans, and it's a great option for those needing a new co-op game to play with friends.

Earth Defense Force 6 feels more like Earth Defense 5.5, what with it being so similar to its predecessor. There are some welcome tweaks to various features, however, and along with some new enemies and more missions than ever, it makes for the best entry in the series yet. We just hope the inevitable Earth Defense Force 7 is a bit more adventurous.

Earth Defense Force 6 elevates meathead B-movie action with a smart time travel twist.

Earth Defense Force 6 is a pretty basic game, but what it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in silly fun. Blowing up hordes and buildings with your buddy, using these wildly unbalanced weapons, all while losing our minds anytime the game tries to do cool things in the story, it all makes for an excellent experience in co-op. So really we feel we can only recommend this if you have someone to play with. You’re going to be buying a game that is extremely unpolished but will give you literal hours of laughing together with a friend and...

Earth Defense 6 has fantastic map variety, better-looking levels, and a story that actually had me hooked. I didn’t keep playing because I wanted a bigger boom, I genuinely wanted to find out what happened next. I’ve always been a fan of the EDF games, but this is the first one that I’m 100% happy to recommend without any weird disclaimers. If you’ve ever been even slightly curious about the series, then now’s the time to sign up and help fight back the alien menace. If you’re a fan of EDF 5, then you’ll get more joy out of this...
