A fun dive into the world of Fiore covering most arcs after the time skip. Enjoyable and interesting turn-based combat with plenty of side quests and collectibles to keep you invested through the story. Fans of the franchise should check out this game even if the combat seems like a turn off.

I love playing games based on anime and manga but sometimes, they don't quite hit the mark so here's the underwhelming Fairy Tail.

There’s very little downtime in Fairy Tail. It’s the type of RPG that wants you to be enjoying yourself every step of the way. Whether you’re watching a well-animated cutscene, making your way through missions to upgrade your rank, or engaging in a high-octane boss fight, you’re unlikely to find yourself bored. Thanks to its beautifully designed world and characters you can’t help but love, it does a valiant job of welcoming newcomers to the series, too. Fairy Tail is over-the-top, comical and captivating – and it’s one of the most enjoyable JRPGs I’ve sank my teeth into in some...

Fairy Tail isn't the worst anime to video game adaptation, and stays truthful to the guild functions shown off the anime. While it won't blow your socks off, it's a decent turn-based RPG and fans of Gust titles will certainly find the right amount of enjoyment. It's the right amount of all the moving parts as long as you don't jump in expecting too much depth.

Fairy Tail has hit the gaming scene in an epic RPG spanning many arcs from the popular graphic novel and anime. Does the guild prove its merits or will they be another forgotten tale among the rubble?

Some faithful Fairy Tail presentation is let down by rushed storytelling, unbalanced combat, and tedious gameplay.

Overall, Fairy Tail isn’t a perfect JRPG but it comes pretty close! Every part of Fairy Tail is beautifully designed and well thought out. While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the combat system at first, I did see the appeal and fun challenge the turn-base combat system brings to this game. I especially loved how the developers incorporated in key elements from the franchise such as teamwork and comradery into the game. Long-time fans especially will enjoy the experience to relive stories previously told in the manga and anime. In addition to being able to able to enjoy never...

Fans of the franchise that have been longing for a full scale game based on the property should be somewhat satisfied by Fairy Tail, although a lot of it is heavily inspired by Gust's flagship franchise.

Fairy Tail is a return to form for the classic turn-based RPG combat of yesteryear. A huge cast of memorable characters, tons of side content, and incredible combat all come together to form one of this year's most impressive JRPGs.

It's apparent that a lot of work went into Fairy Tail to ensure that it's something fans would embrace. While its target audience is obviously fans of Fairy Tail its pacing and mechanics provide an engaging enough experience where those unfamiliar with the franchise would still find it a worthwhile experience. Taken strictly on the merits of gameplay without taking the license into consideration, it's a good though unremarkable JRPG. Side quests were abandoned a few chapters in due to their repetitive nature, but the main story and character side stories are interesting enough to keep the player engaged to...

A lot of people were skeptical at the idea of a turn-based Fairy Tail game. Most of them thought a standard anime action game would suit the franchise better. Not me though. I felt that the back-and-forth nature of your average Fairy Tail fight was actually a perfect fit for a turn-based JRPG, so once I realized that the recently announced Koei Tecmo Fairy Tail game was not a Warriors clone, I was pretty excited. Especially since it was coming from Gust Studios, whose Atelier series I’ve he...

FAIRY TAIL, the highly anticipated JRPG based on the beloved manga adaptation from Gust, is finally here! After a short delay (thanks, COVID-19!) gamers can now follow channel their inner flame dragon and travel through Fiore with Natsu, Lucy, and the rest of the Fairy Tail crew.

That might be enough for you, but I think fans should have better. As for those who aren’t fans, it’s probably better to skip Fairy Tail. Even hardcore JRPG fans will find it not worth playing instead of something much better. This is just too mediocre to recommend for all but the most dedicated fan. Still, I hope you find what you're looking for here if you do take the plunge.

The Fairy Tail franchise and the JRPG genre are a perfect match, and this game perfectly captures the silly yet surprisingly intense charm of the original series. It's a shame that the game often puts so little effort into adapting major story scenes, but that sacrifice is outweighed by the abundance of fun little character interactions and vignettes that are sprinkled throughout the game. Fairy Tail lets you live in the world of Natsu and co. like no other anime game has done before, and any fan of the series is sure to crack a smile at this dedicated RPG...

We have a new entry into the long list of anime and manga that’s been adapted to a video game! Fairy Tail is that franchise, which originally spanned a series of manga volumes and anime series over its 2006-2017 life-span. Admittedly, it’s a franchise I know very little about. Still, getting to preview the game last year and even a recent partaking in a talk with the game’s producer, had me excited. Promising a fun JRPG forray, complete with Fire Emblem-esque relationship mechanics, I...

Fairy Tail is a long-running, Japanese franchise that spans its manga, anime, figurines, and more. After a number of delays leading up to its release, the game is finally releasing worldwide. For the uninitiated, Fairy Tail revolves around a guild of mages, telling the members’ individual stories as well as a much larger narrative. As someone who kept up with the manga’s original release, it was definitely exciting to see a proper console game released.

A lot of anime games are full of personality but lack refinement and polish. Fairy Tail undermines those expectations by being well made whilst still capturing what made the original manga so special. Newcomers may find the limited retelling of the plot hard to follow but franchise veterans should have a blast.

I've re-wrote the intro for this review of Fairy Tail six times now. Why? Well, I wanted to say something about how with a game based on a license, there are always going to be pitfalls. Do you follow the rigid story already found in the canon? Do you create your own story, placing it in a gap somewhere, but then have to balance the already-known strength of the characters? Maybe you just say 'sod it' and create a game like the Dragon Ball Xenoverse series.
