Full Throttle Remastered Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Never has the fallibility of memory been clearer than when revisiting video games from the past. It can be surprising just how big the gulf between recollection and reality can be, leaving you to wonder if your brain just might be responsible for some of the greatest video game remasters of all time. As with last year's re-release of Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle Remastered represents another chance to reconcile memory and reality, and if you're unfamiliar with this classic LucasArts point-and-click adventure, it also happens to be the best way to experience a title that holds up surprisi...

Full Throttle is as great as it ever was, with a charming story and interesting puzzles. The remaster does little to add to this, but it's still very much worth your time.

Full Throttle Remastered mostly succeeds on two fronts: As a fresh way to revisit an old classic, and as the ideal entry point for players who haven’t yet smacked rival bikers with a two-by-four on the Mine Road or figured out the combination to Old Man Corley’s safe. There are a couple of sticking points for both old and new players, including some technical issues and (especially for the latter) that questionable “adventure game logic” which is anything but logical. Nevertheless, there’s never been a better time to hit the open road with Ben and his gang.

Taking inspiration from the likes of Easy Rider, Mad Max, and the works of Hunter S. Thompson, Full Throttle was a strange game in 1995 – and it remains strange today. A comedic revenge tale set in the post-apocalypse, Full Throttle puts players in the leather boots of Ben, the leader of a motorcycle gang known as the Polecats who get caught up in a bloody conspiracy. For this remaster, Double Fine has completely redone the visuals, touched up the audio, and packed the game with bonus features (much like it did with Day of the Tentacle Remastered). These enhancements make this fantastic advent...

All in all Full Throttle is an enjoyable, yet short experience. I beat the game in approximately 5 hours. If you are a fan of point and click adventure games, then you owe it to yourself to play Full Throttle. It’s one of the classics of the genre, and the new remastered version is the best way to experience it.

The best way to play Tim Schafer’s classic biker adventure.

Maybe I’m just really bad at vehicular sections of games, but I spent an inordinate amount of time rumbling through the Mine Road — a curvy section that circles the larger highway at that point in the game — trying to successfully fight other bikers. There’s even an NPC called Father Torque that spouts off some tips before you get to the Mine Road proper, but nothing helped. After over an hour in the same area, I caved and looked up how to do it online. I’m not proud of my failure, but neither do I regret the decision to look up the solution.

The ability to tweak it to the version of Full Throttle you want (I'd recommend the wonderful original art with the excellent new sound and music) rules out most complaints you could have. It needs another pass for minor bugs mentioned above, but nothing is serious. In the end, this is Full Throttle made playable once again, and that's something to be celebrated. It's a really fantastic game, with a lovely story, and brilliant performances. And out of its original timeline it's free to just be itself, not compared to the last or the next LucasArts adventure to hit the shelves. If you loved the...

Full Throttle Remastered is essentially the perfect rework of a classic. Barring a couple of minor issues, LucasArts’ old title has been brought up to modern standards by Double Fine, boasting a brand new look that gives a lot of vibrant detail while maintaining the things that earned Full Throttle its reputation in the first place. It’s clear that Double Fine put a lot of effort into this project, not least because of how important the game is to Tim Schafer, but it’s a great game regardless. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or an adventure game newcomer, if you’re looking for a game that pr...

I was not expecting Full Throttle Remastered to be relatively short. I thought the game would took around two or three days to finish. Unfortunately, I finished the game overnight and it kinda left me hanging. The way you control Ben gives a lot of fun experiences and hilarious moments. I could have prolong my time with the game but the story was getting into me and drove me to finish it. Speaking about prolonging my time with the game, Full Throttle Remastered is not actually an open world game. You may have the liberty to drive anywhere but it has limits. Anyways, it was a great ride and I p...
