Ghost of Tsushima is my absolute favourite game from the previous generation and it's now available for PlayStation 5 with new content.

It’s just over a year since the launch of Ghost of Tsushima for PS4. In my review, I described it as a “worthy addition to the roster of must-play PS4 exclusives that have kept players loyal to the console.” It’s only a year later, but we’ve now advanced a generation, with the PS5 blowing users away with higher-quality visuals, smoother performance, faster loading times, and other improvements to the gaming experience. Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is a last-gen game trying to make it on a next-gen system. Does its content arsenal make it a must-play for PS5, too? This...

Iki Island also adds a few new features beyond another look at Ghost of Tsushima's engrossing hero. Animal sanctuaries allow Jin to show his softer side by interacting with various wildlife, and is a natural extension of the "pet the fox" feature that endeared itself well to so many players. Horse charges are the most noticeable change to combat, allowing for Jin to do some more ridiculous types of combat engagements that previously didn't exist within the game. It's good in small doses, which is exactly how it slots into the existing combat system, so it's a welcome addition to...

In 2020, Sucker Punch Productions blew our expectations out of the water with the immaculate Ghost of Tsushima, a new IP which we called “a captivating, engaging and lovingly crafted open world to explore”. Fast forward to 2021, just over 12 months since the original release, and Sucker Punch are giving us Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut; upgraded and expanded with new content and exclusive PS5 features that enhance the gameplay to new heights and levels of immersion. I had a blast s...

Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut is the best version of an excellent game, thanks not only to various technical and quality-of-life improvements, but also a meaty and brilliant new expansion that builds on the base game's biggest strengths in all the right ways.

While the Director's Cut improvements are appreciated, the Iki Island expansion is the real star of this rerelease. Iki Island distills all the best parts of Ghost of Tsushima into one focused experience, and it provides an incredibly compelling reason to return to the game.

Ghost of Tsushima is one of the best samurai games of all time and the Director’s Cut only excels it further. Sucker Punch Productions’ work on reimagining thirteen century Japan is a grand achievement, creating a captivating world filled with an exceeding amount of things to do, while implementing an engaging, memorable combat system. The Iki Island expansion extends the journey even further, with a fantastic personal story of Jin Sakai, more of the activities we’ve come to love and a vast open world ripe for exploration. There’s even risk-reward armor that can be found, alongside the various new aesthetics....

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is the best way to play one of 2020’s best games, but the PS5 upgrade can be a bit pricey.

Ghost of Tsushima was a great game when it launched just over a year ago. And now, in the form of a Director’s Cut, it’s even better. It seems trite to make a big deal over the visuals not being massively upgraded for next-gen when the game looks so phenomenal anyway, and what has been added – 3D audio and DualSense support – is enough to make the upgrade fee worthwhile for those who already own the original game and want to take on the new Iki Island expansion. That itself is largely more of the same, but its thoroughly...
