God creates dinosaurs. God destroys dinosaurs. God creates man. Man destroys God. Man creates video game featuring dinosaurs.

Although it debuted in 2015 for almost every console under the sun, Lego Jurassic World is now available for Switch and it's great fun.

What is so amazing about the LEGO series of games is that developer TT Games consistently creates titles that are fun, fresh and enjoyable. They manage to accomplish this by simply taking the concepts and best parts of a movie, putting on a LEGO spin, and developing a memorable gaming experience. Their latest title for the Nintendo Switch, LEGO Jurassic World, is no exception.

Visually, Lego Jurassic World looks incredibly accurate to the toys it’s based on. These iconic film locations are incredibly charming when built from Lego, as are the characters of the films in minifigure form. The non-Lego environment pieces are exceptional as well, as they evoke a childish nostalgia, as though you’re playing with Lego pieces outside.

The name of the game pretty much spells out exactly what you can expect: LEGO Jurassic World. It is the traditional, Travelers' Tale LEGO experience that is becoming all too familiar, set in a Jurassic Park setting. Nothing more. Nothing less.

These days, if a brand finds itself considered pop-culture then there are two eventualities that are almost a certainty. Firstly, the inevitable onslaught of Funko Pop Vinyl figurines that casts every single character in cute and irritatingly adorable plastic models. Secondly, a LEGO game, incidentally involving irritatingly adorable plastic models. The Jurassic Park franchise, it would seem, has not escaped the clutches of the Danish toy manufacturer and developer TT Games – although it's yet to get Funko'd, unfortunately.

As charming and accessible as any Lego game but Jurassic Park doesn’t suit the Lego formula terribly well and the ability to play as dinosaurs is underused.

Lego Jurassic World is full of nostalgia for fans of the franchise, while still highlighting the new film. It is the most refined Lego game and even with its downfalls it is still full of fun and charm.

I presided over horrific Lego experiments when I was young. My minifigs became organic engines powering vehicles, got combined with monsters, and had their heads replaced by every possible brick. Tampering with the natural order of things is easy with Lego, so the genetic manipulation in Lego Jurassic World should be a natural fit. However, when it comes to experimentation, this title marks a first for the whole Jurassic Park franchise: It doesn’t go far enough. The action rarely deviates from previous Lego titles, but when it does, it goes in the wrong direction.

Overall, if you’re a fan of the LEGO games, you’ll not be disappointed with LEGO Jurassic World. Whilst the volume of glitches encountered do hinder the experience somewhat, it doesn’t detract too much from the enjoyment on offer. Yes, it’s rather repetitive and formulaic, so if you’ve already tired of LEGO games in the past, you won’t really find much new on offer here (besides the opportunity to play as a T-Rex), but if you’re still a LEGO fan there’s plenty to enjoy.

If you have an affinity for any of the four films recapped within, LEGO Jurassic World will be a worthwhile visit. Seeing the series' iconic moments recreated with cute figurines is a treat, and each of the four campaigns is fast-paced enough that completing the entire franchise in its brick-based form will only take roughly seven to eight hours, which is not much longer than the combined film running times (and amounts to brisk mini-campaigns of two hours or less each). Plus, you can tackle this one with a friend and run around as a raptor or Jeff Goldblum. Just...

LEGO Jurassic World hits all the right notes on the nostalgia scale by providing gamers with faithful recreations of the four movies in the series for a really fun experience, but there is really nothing brick breaking this time around.

Lego Jurassic World is as expected: Legos, dinosaurs, and puzzles. But, the formula is too familiar and needs more chaos theory.

With the latest Jurassic Park film smashing up records in a bid to prove that we all still love dinosaurs smashing stuff up, and eating stupid people, it was only a matter of time before a tie in game came along. Personally I’m still waiting for my Jurassic Park vs Godzilla idea to spring into action, but I suppose this will have to do for now. Mercifully it has been entrusted to the lovely folk at TT Games, so you know that no matter what it will poke fun at the source material.

LEGO Jurassic World strikes an excellent balance between delivering a nostalgic take on a beloved series of movies, whilst incorporating the brand new Jurassic World storyline as well. By allowing you to choose your jumping in point it also frees you up to experience them in your own order, and whilst the formula is becoming tired in some aspects, this is the most refined Lego game yet, displaying a snappy pace that previous games have often lacked. You should also never, ever, underestimate the simple draw of being able to play as a dinosaur.
