Incredible visuals and so many activities it's tough to keep up with them all, Flight Simulator 2024 delivers a heck of an experience for flight sim enthusiasts. Yes, you can question if it should have just been a patch to the 2020 series or not, but it's not enough to deter me from saying that this one is worth picking up for all the upgrades.

If there is a piece of good news here, I feel confident that Asobo will continue to resolve these issues and, given enough time, we'll end up with a Microsoft Flight Simulator that is as stable as 2020 and benefits from all the additional technical improvements. We're not there now though, and now is when folks have spent their money on this product. The '2024' title feels premature; this game needed another 6-12 months of development and testing. It's apparent that it's simply not ready and much more work is required before it is. Flight simmers now have to decide...

The move to a cloud-focused game has caused some turbulence on takeoff, and it would be good to be able to decouple from that decision with an “install-all” option, but Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 elevates the game in just about every other way. It'd just be nice if it did it more cleanly. That said, if you have even a passing interest in flight, this simulator is still the best out there.

A visually astonishing simulation of real flight in all aspects, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 now accurately recreates the energy-sapping demands of an actual commercial pilot.

It might not have quite the same wow factor second time around, but Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 builds on its astonishing predecessor with intelligence and precision - making an already impressive achievement richer and more welcoming.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 builds on the engrossing flight model of its 2020 predecessor and finds substantial new ways to turn the impressive 1:1 Earth replica into a structured experience. But even after its disastrous launch, the streaming tech powering it seems determined to keep you from the good bits.

A staggeringly detailed flight simulator with a wealth of new craft and aviation challenges, that now works like an actual video game – but the technical shortcomings are still noticeable and frequent.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a simulation game developed by Asobo Studios and published by Xbox Game Studios. It’s the latest entry in Microsoft’s long-standing Flight Simulator franchise that originally made its debut in 1982. The game features a free flight mode, a career mode, and a tutorial mode.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a nice improvement over the 2020 edition, which may or may not be worth the price for you. But poor performance and frequent crashes make the game unplayable on the Steam Deck.

Back in 2020, I had a legitimately fun time playing the first Microsoft Flight Simulator to be released on consoles, even though I’m not a big fan of these kinds of simulators. It was one of the surprise hits of the year, a brief glimpse of joy and escapism during the pandemic period. With that being said, that game was a bit shallow in terms of content. Sure, you could explore the whole world, but it had no career mode, and its base roster of planes was shallow. Microsoft Flight Simulator ...

But for all its ambition, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 feels weighed down by its own shortcomings. This simulator demands time, patience, and perhaps a little forgiveness. For those willing to embrace its imperfections, the horizon holds incredible promise. But that promise feels like it’s out of reach, lost somewhere in the clouds.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 offers upgraded visuals, a bigger hanger full of aircraft types, and more detail all around. For some, the high system requirements and always-on need for a fast internet connection might be a deal breaker. Prior investment in a lot of third-party add-ons for the last edition might also warrant some caution. Caveats aside, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 offers a wide array of structured activities, plenty of guidance and, you know, the whole world to explore. It’s a great point of entry for armchair pilots and pretty satisfying for all but the most hardcore flight enthusiasts.

Flight Simulator 2020 is a daunting prospect for someone like me. I have such a lack of aviation knowledge that it’s almost impressive how little I know about planes. For all I know, aircraft are powered by magic. They are essentially giant baked bean tins with humans trapped inside, propelled through the sky at terrifying speeds so that we can all go to Spain occasionally.
