As a child raised in the ‘90s, few TV shows brought me and my friends together for playground hijinks more than Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Assuming the roles of our favorite Rangers (often contentiously) and poorly imitating martial arts moves was a blast. The franchise’s many co-op beat ‘em up games captured a similar joy at home. Rita’s Rewind is the latest brawler that, while not an all-time standout, replicates the fun of playing with friends as Angel Grove’s favorite teenage...

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is a title that will make fans of the original show smile. There is so much to love here; this is a must-play game!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! I guarantee you that pretty much everyone who grew up in the 1990s knows the name and likely tried some martial arts on their friends at school. Given the franchise has also spawned 22 different TV series, three feature-length movies and 27 video games to its name it is highly unlikely that this franchise has passed under the radar of even those living under a rock.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind leans heavily into the arcade era of video games with its look, sound and gameplay. It's a tonne of fun especially in co-op, but its short runtime will leave you wanting for more. If you're a fan of the MMPR series then this will definitely put a smile on your face.

A gorgeous retro homage to early 90s kids TV and video games, but where the total lack of depth and challenge leaves little for even fans to get their teeth into.

Rita’s Rewind is another failure for the Power Rangers brand. First, the TV show ends with a badly made, under-budget version of something that wasn’t liked at all, then the figures have been licensed out to Playmate Toys (This might end up being a good thing with time), all the props and costumes have been sold off at auction, and now the video game that looked to revive the old-school Power Rangers feeling comes out and messed up. No wonder Hasbro is trying to offload everything to do with Power Rangers as they can’t get anything right.

Don’t get me wrong - I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The 8 year old in me sitting around watching the Power Rangers on tv had been awakened. The 10 year old playing in the sprinklers with my mom while she pretended to be Rita Repulsa was sitting right there in my recliner. The 30 year old introducing my toddler to the original Power Rangers was fully engaged. Now pushing 40, I am certain of only a few things in life and one of those things is that you’re never too old to love the Power Rangers.

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind has a great old-school beat-'em-up at its core, but it unfortunately finds itself buried under questionable gameplay additions at times. Still, for those who just want to experience the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers game in a well-done beat-'em-up, this is still easily recommended, as it easily nails down the spirit and fun of both the show and video games from the era. Let's just hope any sequels go all-out with the franchise's history, though...

In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind, the team faces off against a robotic reincarnation of the Power Rangers' long-time nemesis. Robo Rita has conjured a portal to send herself back in time so she can finally vanquish the Power Rangers by forming an alliance with her younger self. Working together, Robo Rita and Rita Repulsa rewind, rewrite, and remix the past in an attempt to stop the very formation of the Power Rangers, altering the course of history. Will the two Ritas and their army of monstrous enemies from across the MMPR timeline finally succeed in destroying the Power...

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind combines beat 'em up action with arcade-style shooting, but neither element is particularly impressive. And so, this is an experience that only the most ardent and patient Power Rangers fans are likely to love.

I will always have a soft spot for Power Rangers games in this website, as the first game ever reviewed here, back in January 2017, was Power Rangers Mega Battle for the Xbox One. More than just sentimental value, I was eager to check Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind out for the fact it was being crafted by Digital Eclipse, in one of the rare occasions in which they weren’t busy remastering games to sheer perfection, or making yet another memorable entry in the “virtual inter...

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Revenge leaves a lot to the future. If the DLC and future patches make the game faster, and more enjoyable, then you'll have a solid game on your hands. In it's current state, it's slow, it's repetitive, and some features are admittingly missing. A wise man once said "A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is bad forever." MMPR: RR is somewhere in the middle.

Rita’s Rewind is well worth checking out if you’re a fan of Power Rangers or retro-style tributes to the beat ‘em up genre. It also offers up some great fan service and nostalgia, with its super scaler segments mixing up the gameplay with all sorts of blockbuster arcade scenes that do a respectable job honouring the source material. And hey, if you’re a lapsed Power Rangers fan, the memories should come flooding back in no time! This truly is a great way to mark the series’ 30th anniversary and goes to show just how much fun this franchise can still...

Overall, I’d say Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is worth your time if you’re a fan of the genre and especially if you’re a Power Rangers fan. The presentation is excellent, from the character select screen to the in-game speech scenes, everything feels like the Power Rangers TV show. I particularly loved the little nods Digital Eclipse included to other classics in the genre. Be it the little baby turtles wading in radioactive goo in the background of one level, to the giant enemies dressed like Hugo Andore from Final Fight. There’s a loving care placed into the finer...

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is a small, but well-rounded package that Power Rangers fans should adore, and unfamiliar friends can enjoy alongside them. Rita’s Rewind would have been a hit in late 90s arcades, and its competence and love for the source material means it should find an audience today alongside the Once & Always special it sprang from. Even if its competitors do what it does better, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is still a rollicking good time that no one will regret experiencing.
