Sports video game series, much like real-world sports franchises, tend to ebb and flow throughout the years. A stretch of a few consecutive good campaigns can be abruptly interrupted by an unexpected downturn plagued by unforced errors or a full-on rebuilding year. As you look at the sports gaming landscape, that has been true of nearly every series, but historically, MLB The Show has remained consistent throughout much of its existence. Though this year is more about staying the course throu...

Baseball is more than just hitting a ball out of the arena. It’s about working with your teammates, anticipating the other team’s movements, and pushing yourself to your limits. Every baseball player is working hard to participate in the most prestigious tournaments in the world. That means training, improving, and figuring out which team can take you to the top. Never forget that other players are doing the same thing and are fighting with you for victory.

The 2025 Major League Baseball season has begun and just a couple of weeks ago we got the latest installment in San Diego Studio’s baseball sim series. MLB The Show 25 not only continues the Negro Leagues for a third straight game, but it also makes meaningful improvements to Diamond Dynasty and Road to the Show.

Ultimately, MLB The Show 25 delivers another solid simulation baseball experience, building upon the strong foundation established by its predecessors. Does it capture the magic of being on the diamond? I think so. The improved fielding/running/hitting systems make the core gameplay loop feel fantastic. Franchise mode has seen a couple of much-appreciated additions. And Diamond Dynasty is fun again with the season system behind it. The team at San Diego Studio continues to show dedication and passion for capturing the essence of baseball. This year’s offering, while not perfect, demonstrates their commitment to evolving and improving the franchise.

Rising through the amateur ranks in Road to the Show and the retirement of Sets and Season in Diamond Dynasty have brought much needed life back to MLB The Show 25.

MLB The Show 25 may not impress hardcore fans expecting deeper changes and better visuals, but it's still a polished effort and the definitive baseball game.

All annual sports game franchises have those entries that are more about polishing what came before than trying bold new things, and MLB The Show 25 fits into that category. Most everything here is great and will give baseball fans their money's worth and then some, but those looking for something different may be disappointed. Still, the sheer amount of content MLB The Show 25 brings to the table is impressive, the core gameplay is a lot of fun, and it perfectly captures the essence of the MLB. MLB The Show 25 is more of the same, but when "the...

San Diego Studios is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of MLB The Show this year. MLB The Show 25 is also relieving the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One of its duties by making the game prioritized on current-generation consoles (outside of the Nintendo Switch version). Some new things have been added including a new gameplay system known as Showtech, a new boardgame-inspired mode in Diamond Dynasty, good presentation elements and more. At the core of MLB The Show 25, even going completely to a new generation and noting meaningful changes, the series just feels left on second base. A dynasty of...

For March To October, I played through the season with the Seattle Mariners, the same as every year. Again, they're listed as a Contender, and I had the difficulty set to Dynamic as I typically do. If anything, Dynamic feels skewed a bit more on the challenging side this year (I went from Beginner to halfway to Minors in around a single game). I intentionally messed up to see how quickly the meter went down, and it definitely didn't drop that fast. I didn't mind, but it does feel like the game balance is designed to challenge you more this...

And like Diamond Dynasty and Road to the Show, players need to be prepared to settle in for the long haul in Franchise, as putting together a championship roster is no easy feat this year. The “Potential” stat for major league players and prospects has taken a hit, meaning some athletes are less valuable than they would’ve been in previous games. That’s going to make moving pieces much harder, and that’s not a bad thing. Sure, Juan Soto-type deals happen, but they aren’t commonplace, and MLB The Show 25 is taking that fact to heart.

MLB The Show 25 offers several improvements to Sony's iterative baseball title. San Diego Studio continues to produce an excellent baseball game. Whether or not it's enough to replace your copy of The Show 24 or even 23 is a different story, as the additions are good but not so much to make last year's title a lame duck.

MLB The Show 25 Diamond Dynasty features microtransactions, and Diamond Dynasty is a massive focal point of the game. However, that didn’t stop San Diego Studio from finally addressing long-overdue issues for Road to the Show and Franchise.
