My Hero One’s Justice 2 is a great brawler. It carries on the fine work put in on the first game, wraps the more recent story beats into a playable form, and buffs the already excellent visuals up to a new Shonen shine. It’s not a great jumping on point for newcomers, at least story-wise, but it remains a fun, approachable fighter based on one of the best anime shows of recent years.

An improvement in every way to the last game, My Hero One’s Justice 2 is a wonderful title for fans of My Hero Academia. With an improved roster and enhanced gameplay, it’s time to go Plus Ultra with this fighting game at last.

For fans, a game based of their favourite anime or manga property would probably be one of their top most wanted things. This time, we review the game adaptation of one of these hottest properties, My Hero Academia / Boku no Hero Academia, with developers ByKings and publisher Bandai Namco, in MY HERO ONE’S JUSTICE 2. The game is available for PS4, PC Steam, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch since 13 March 2020.

My Hero One’s Justice 2 makes surprisingly few changes to its predecessors’ style but brings nearly double the roster to its flashy fights in what remains a solid arena fighter.

Visually, One’s Justice 2 looks great for the most part. The models on the main menu have very little shading, which makes them look a bit eerie, but in gameplay, they look much better and are quite expressive. The destructible environments look straight out of the show, as do the comic book-esque sound effect textboxes and attack effects.

My Hero One’s Justice was a fine adaptation of My Hero Academia, even if the name was a bit confusing. Naturally, it didn’t cover all of the content featured in My Hero Academia, in part because that’s an anime that is currently still airing new episodes. Fast-forward a year and a half, and there are new episodes to cover. Bandai Namco has thus released My Hero One’s Justice 2, which promises new playable characters, and new stories to play through. But could this have been better served as an expansion to the original release? Let’s find out in our My...

Ultimately, though, what stings the most about seeing My Hero One’s Justice 2 is how much hasn’t changed since the first game. It’s still very much a reasonably well-made and pretty anime arena fighter, but it’s nothing more than that. Even the considerably messier One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows at least had the ambition to try to capture the source material’s spirit through its main single-player mode. My Hero Academia fans looking for exactly that will be satisfied, but once again it seems Bandai Namco has opted to coast rather than adopt U.A.’s “Plus Ultra” philosophy.

My Hero One’s Justice 2 is the second fighting game based on My Hero Academia, arguably one of the most popular anime in the world. As its title suggests, My Hero One’s Justice 2 is the follow-up to 2018’s equally awkwardly titled My Hero One’s Justice -- and it's every bit as bland as its predecessor.

There are so many anime fighting games that it's ridiculous so here's an arena fighter based on the manga My Hero Academia.

My Hero One’s Justice 2 ended up just making me sad. The game had immense promise but was dragged down by its setbacks. With an interesting story, intense battles, and different ways to play, I should like this game so much more. Instead, I have to draw attention to the issues that have brought down what could be a fantastic gaming experience. I mostly feel bad for this game’s developers, who demonstrate that they have a clear understanding and passion for their source material. Unfortunately, this hero based game proved to be a zero.

It is so disappointing when a game is so broadly good, but so very let down in so many key areas. My Hero Academia is one of the biggest anime and manga franchises in the world right now, and so when it gets a sequel to its huge video game adaptation, My Hero One's Justice, it should for be cause for celebration among fans. But it's not. The release has gone by with barely a mention, and that's because despite looking so good, despite featuring so many characters of differing playstyles, and despite the massive franchise the game is attached...

My Hero One's Justice 2 is a better game than its predecessor, if only slightly. It makes minor but notable improvements over the existing formula, and while there are still issues to be resolved in regards to the series as a whole, it manages to keep from making any major missteps that would bring the series down.

Small disclaimer before we get started: I have not watched My Hero Academia except for the purposes of this review and My Hero One’s Justice 2 is my first real exposure to the series, so some references will go over my head. Consider me unbiased!

My Hero One’s Justice 2 is an unimaginative and unadventurous sequel; there’s no ambition here. It packs in a new story and more characters as if that’s enough, but it largely feels unchanged from its predecessor. Old issues inexplicably remain and the combat is as shallow as ever. So, while My Hero One’s Justice 2 is undoubtedly a better game than the first, you’ll likely be a little disappointed with it, whether you’re a fan of My Hero Academia or not. Still, there are worse ways to spend your money.

Play through the lives of Deku and other UA High students. While the combat isn't exceptionally deep the attacks are flashy and characters are all distinct from one another. Fans of My Hero Academia will get a kick out of the story and mission mode any other arena fighter fans might want to investigate more before a purchase.

Like its predecessor, One's Justice 2 is good for a few matches with friends. You get to play around with the amazing, expanded cast of characters from the anime and fire off some snazzy special moves and supers. Its minor improvements make combat more fun and the expanded roster offers a ton of new options, too. But if you want to delve deeper than that – whether it's sussing out the intricacies of combat, finding a satisfying solo experience, or getting in some good matches online – this second run at a My Hero Academia game just doesn't put in...
