While the bar wasn't that high to begin with, Separate Ways is far and away the best piece of DLC ever released for a Resident Evil game. It manages to succesfully build on top of the already rock solid experience that Resident Evil 4 provides to offer up the spotlight that series super spy Ada Wong has always deserved. With a heady mix of horror, action and even espionage, Separate Ways' incredibly modest price of admission makes it a no brainer. It's an absolute achievement from the development team and not to be missed.

The Resident Evil 4 Separate Ways DLC is a polished piece of fan service that delivers the promise of the original DLC, and more.

Ada’s adventure in the Resident Evil 4 remake is the final piece of the puzzle, rounding out the game and adding what was missing from Leon’s campaign.

I had a blast with Resident Evil 4 Remake Separate Ways, but I can’t help but feel it won’t be for everyone. This DLC doesn’t hold your hand, in fact, it tries to bite it off. The base game never made me feel as stressed or up against the wall as Separate Ways did, and I know some players will find it too much.

This year’s Resident Evil 4 Remake was a towering achievement. Not only matches up to the legendary GameCube original, but surpasses it in just about every way. It provided the franchise’s best gameplay, excellent storytelling, and improved level design, but it was missing one thing: Separate Ways. It was teased during the main story, but didn’t ship with the game. Now Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways is finally here and has been given the same treatment as the main game, doing much more ...

Separate Ways brings Ada Wong’s story into a new light while offering fresh feeling combat and unique encounters that make this expansion a great compliment to an amazing game.

Capcom released Resident Evil 4 remake earlier this year, and despite missing some of the original’s most memorable moments, it was a deserved critical hit. It’s a fantastic, updated reimaging of Leon’s original horrific adventure through an approximation of rural Spain. Separate Ways is represents a different remake, putting players in control of Ada Wong and reexamining the expansion initially added to the PlayStation 2 version of Resident Evil 4 in 2005. The DLC lets players see the story from a new perspective, fill in some narrative gaps, learn more about Ada and Wesker, and offers new mechanics. But it mostly functions as a reminder that the Resident Evil 4 remake is a very, very good video game.

Separate Ways completes the Resident Evil 4 package with a campaign so good it makes other Resident Evil games look bad by comparison.

Separate Ways is an absolute blast, with Ada being a fun character and the story and new additions to Ada’s campaign are incredible.

While Separate Ways plays it very safely, it is an easy recommendation for those who want some more Resident Evil 4 Remake in their lives.

There’s some light puzzle solving as well, as Ada is able to see fingerprints and footprints using a device in her eye. This is mainly just used to track people and discover passcodes on keypads, but these little diversions spice things up a bit. There’s even a sequence where you have to quickly ascertain a passcode while being chased by an enormous monstrosity, which was a highlight of the latter portion of Separate Ways. I’d have loved to get a few more frightening moments like that, as I thoroughly enjoyed the ones that were present.

You'd be missing out on a ton of amazing content if you don't play Separate Ways. This RE4 Remake DLC brings you back to some stellar combat and an engaging story, while also giving Ada the spotlight she deserves.

This year's Resident Evil 4 is one of the greatest remakes of all time, but purists — or at least those who had already played the PS2 version — will tell you it was still missing something. When the Nintendo GameCube original was ported to Sony's second home system, it came bundled with new campaigns all about side character Ada Wong. Separate Ways was the most important of the bunch, and six months after the PS5, PS4 remake's release, it's back as DLC for Capcom's newest masterpiece. 18 years later, it has the same effect: Separate Ways meaningfully expands the Resident Evil 4 story and provides a tantalising reason to return to one of the best games ever.

Nitpicks aside, Separate Ways is a mostly tremendous addition to the Resident Evil 4 remake and, along with The Mercenaries mode updates that were released for free, goes a long way in making the RE4 remake experience truly complete. Some may still not be happy that Separate Ways is a $9.99 DLC instead of being packed-in with the game like it was in the post-GameCube versions of the original Resident Evil 4, but this version of Separate Ways is a fundamentally different experience and one that surpasses its predecessor in every possible way.

The new chapter of the Resident Evil 4 remake puts Ada in center stage, where only one thing can hold her back.

September 23, 2023 Read Review

A very welcome slice of DLC that is just as enjoyable as the main game and helps flesh out a fan favourite character with their own unique abilities and agenda.

September 22, 2023 Read Review

I’m just as shocked as you are that Separate Ways ended up being great, but when you really think about it, there was no other realistic outcome. The Resident Evil 4 remake is so good that Capcom really could have rested on its laurels and developed a cheap DLC that would have been fine at worst, but they put the work in.

September 22, 2023 Read Review

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways should be shown to all developers as to how to do DLC going forward. Not only do we get a great campaign that almost rivals the main game, but it’s done at a cheap/affordable price point. The story of Ada gives us some more questions as to what is going on with the future of the Resident Evil remake franchise while keeping its own story relevant and interesting.
