While it is appreciated that Flying Wild Hog has addressed many of the concerns surrounding Shadow Warrior 3 and even added a bit more content, there isn't a justified reason to repackage the entire game into a Definitive Edition. Can't complain though, because it's still a fun time with Lo Wang and best of all, it's free for existing owners!

Shadow Warrior 3 delivers the bloody, fast-paced goods, with combat mirroring the well-received DOOM revival, but perhaps without the gameplay variety and depth that has made its hellish counterpart such a major success. Easy to pick up and play, Shadow Warrior 3 offers an entertaining, if a tad superficial, experience that stops short of greatness and feels like it could have used a little more polish to take the Shadow Warrior franchise to new heights.

The Shadow Warrior franchise refuses to give up the fight. 3D Realms’ original 1997 Shadow Warrior is considered a minor cult classic, and Devolver Digital and Flying Wild Hog’s more recent games have apparently done well enough to merit sequels, but if we’re being real, the franchise has never been a top contender in terms of either reviews or sales. Nevertheless, Devolver and Flying Wild Hog are stepping into the ring for another bloody round with Shadow Warrior 3.

Shadow Warrior 3 is an ok time. I don’t personally think it is worth its launch price as there is little to no replayability and the story only took me 5 hours to get through, but if what your mileage may vary. I’m sad to see co-op gone, and the lack of a loot system and randomized levels does hurt the overall value even more. That isn’t to say there is no fun to be had here though. The gunplay is solid, weapon and enemy varieties while not numerous are well balanced, and the scope can be breathtaking. It may...

Shadow Warrior 3 is the latest instalment in Polish developer Flying Wild Hog’s reboot series of the 1990s FPS Shadow Warrior. After going in a Borderlands-esque looter-shooter direction with its predecessor in 2016, Shadow Warrior 3 jettisons open-ended levels, side-quests, and most of its RPG mechanics to distil everything down to the most streamlined shooter it can be, and in this case, it actually worked. By trimming anything slow or boring and stringing protagonist Lo Wang across a lin...

For some, what you make of Shadow Warrior 3 may well be influenced by the comparisons one draws from the prior 2016 entrant. While all parties will unilaterally agree Flying Wild Hog's third outing in the series feels more stripped back and "to the point" than its predecessors -- least on the surface -- feelings thereafter will no doubt be split. Some will deduce this year's offering lacks what made 2016's title a novel but compelling shooter to play in repeated session. For others, myself included, that notion of being stripped back by no means signals a negative. But few...

Shadow Warrior 3 has some genuinely great ideas, but it is hampered by a handful of pronounced technical issues and a general lack of replayability.

Despite technical difficulties and a lack of Stan Bush, Shadow Warrior 3 still captures the silliness that’s become a trademark of the series.

Shadow Warrior 3 has some of the tightest controls in any shooter game I have played in recent memory. It has a fun plot with a lot of areas to kill demons in fun and engaging ways. Become the Jedi Spider-man if only for a few hours.

Shadow Warrior 3 is fun but forgettable, a whirlwind tour of demon slaying that latches onto FPS trends and provides little spice of its own.

Overall, Shadow Warrior 3 feels like a teenager that still has a bit of maturing to do. Humor that tries to be edgy overshadows the fun gameplay, and the lack of an intriguing story does not help either. I would not necessarily say Shadow Warrior 3 is a bad game, but it was disappointing that I often felt like I was playing through a 15-year-old’s video game fantasy. Still, there are moments of fun to be had, and I hope Shadow Warriors 4, if it happens, can fix some of the writing mistakes to make the enjoyable experience of actually...

If there’s one game Shadow Warrior 3 desperately wants to be, it’s Doom Eternal. Yes, there are death traps, some fun swordplay, and annoying humor, but at its heart, the latest Shadow Warrior FPS is a Doom game. This isn’t necessarily a problem, except that’s a lofty bar to hit and I’m not sure it reaches those heights.

Overall, Shadow Warrior 3 is an unbridled good time with great fights and even greater one-liners. Add in some character and weapon upgrades with a great store and that is a recipe for success in my book. With the exception of the controller issues everything else in this game comes highly recommended by myself. Both versions of Shadow Warrior 3 are available on March 1st. The normal version is 49.99 USD on Steam and the Deluxe version is 59.99 USD. This will be available also on PlayStation ...

Pretty, action-packed, and fun while it lasts, Shadow Warrior 3 is well made as long as there isn't any dialogue, but there's so little content that the price tag makes it truly hard to recommend.

The Wang is back and harder than ever with a new sack of weapons and loads of hot new jokes. Depending on when you got into the series you may have had mixed feeling about Shadow Warrior 2‘s direction. For myself, I liked the more linear focus of the first game over the seconds procedural generated level designs and less focused story. However, the second game added so many weapons, stats, RPG elements, and mission freedom that if that is what you enjoyed more than Shadow Warrior 3 may fee...

At the end of the day, Shadow Warrior 3 lives and dies on how much fun it is to play. Thankfully, the minute-to-minute action is downright delightful, even if the boss encounters maintain the series’ streak of being underwhelming. The shooting, movement, and killing are every bit as good as recent Doom games, even if the whole thing feels derivative. The guns and enemies are wildly inventive and engaging. It is a shame the rest of the experience fails to meet the same standard. I was disappointed at many of the design choices here, particularly the loss of cooperative play...

Shadow Warrior 3 isn’t a very big game. It doesn’t really innovate, either, or let you breathe. But on the flipside of that, it’s focused, and doesn’t waste any of your time. You’re ushered from one combat encounter to another with a big smile on your face, the action never letting up, all the while bombarded with witty dialogue and visual gags that will genuinely make you chuckle. So, if that sounds like your idea of fun, jump right in. You won’t be disappointed.

Shadow Warrior 3 represents a true return to the series roots, rekindling the very reason why many loved the first as well as the classic titles it inspires from. There are plenty of small and big improvements, and while I am disappointed by the fact that I won’t be able to experience this with a friend or two, it’s compensated by what Flying Wild Hog was able to deliver on. It’s a fantastic game that calls back to the mindless fun that we all had when we were growing up, filled with the crude humor that modern day gaming dares...
