Tropico 6 brings a lot to the table. It is pretty to look at, easy to get started with, and offers hours of play time with its generous depth and breadth in multiple categories of human life.
Tropico has always felt like a fantastic city builder that doesn’t get as much recognition as it deserves. So, for the review of its sixth iteration, I want to gloss over whether fans of the series should get it right off the bat. The answer is yes to y’all. If you’re like me and you’ve played every single one and adore this series: Yes, definitely get this one. Tropico 6 improves upon things you ...
Tropico 6 is the best game I've played all year. It reminds me of all the classic strategy games I used to love, and yet it doesn't make me yearn for them. That's because Limbic Entertainment managed to nail just what makes strategy games so fun. The latest Tropico release is great to look at, it's delightfully complex, and its zany and sometimes absurd humor helps make the whole experience so muc...
“Viva la revolución, El Presidente!” These timeless words have been recorded throughout the ages, etched onto every stone on every island in the Caribbean and shouted into the watery mists since time immemorial…or since 2001. Poptop Software’s original title introduced us into the world of Tropico, where you play as a dictator who makes his own rules in a Caribbean paradise-turned-city-builder. Th...
It’s re-election time for El Presidente! There will be plenty of baby kissing, hand shaking and militant rebellions this time of year, as Tropico 6 finally makes its way to PS4. The PC stalwart has patiently waited since March to launch an all-out assault on the console, and its high time that we get the chance to see what the newest installment in the quirky world-building/dominating simulation h...
Tropico 6 feels like the kind of game that you can fall back on when every other game gets a little too stressful. The economy can be tricky to get started, but you can soon start to kick back and take it easy. If you are finding it too hard though, turn on unlimited money and enjoy your break. It’s almost like going on holiday to the Carribean, which is fitting really.
A strong and stable return, but can Tropico 6 earn your vote?
The amount there is to do and the depth of its political mechanics make Tropico 6 stand out over its immediate predecessors. It's a tropical vacation worth taking when you're looking for an in-depth city-builder with strong personality and a touch of humor, which is something of a rarity outside of this long-running series. But drink too deeply of its perplexing economic systems and you may find y...
While Tropico 6 maintains the series' humor and complexity, it sometimes gets bogged down under the weight of its own systems. There's plenty of fun to be found here, but you'll be left wanting more.
In that regard, Tropico 6 goes past just another game where the player builds a city and watches people passively live within it. The player is able to construct a paradise or a dystopia, literally choosing who lives and who dies, and there are repercussions for each decision with warring factions and governments that are interacted with throughout the game. While Tropico 6 remains the same in man...
It's the game's commitment to accessibility that makes Tropico 6 a refreshing example of an under-served genre on the Switch. Despite some irksome performance problems, occasionally inconsistent pacing and some rather rough visuals, the game is a lot of addictive fun to play and its cheerful ambience and compelling systems will keep you glued to your handheld. Paid DLC adds even more systems to th...
Tropico 6 is a blast when things are going well, but frustrating when they aren't.
