It's the game's commitment to accessibility that makes Tropico 6 a refreshing example of an under-served genre on the Switch. Despite some irksome performance problems, occasionally inconsistent pacing and some rather rough visuals, the game is a lot of addictive fun to play and its cheerful ambience and compelling systems will keep you glued to your handheld. Paid DLC adds even more systems to the game, but there's plenty here to keep you occupied for hours and hours. We'd recommend this to genre newbies as well as veterans; a very impressive port with strong controls and a UI tailored brilliantly...

It’s re-election time for El Presidente! There will be plenty of baby kissing, hand shaking and militant rebellions this time of year, as Tropico 6 finally makes its way to PS4. The PC stalwart has patiently waited since March to launch an all-out assault on the console, and its high time that we get the chance to see what the newest installment in the quirky world-building/dominating simulation has in store.

Tropico 6 overhauls the entire infrastructure, bringing forward most, but not all of the features we had with previous outings. A greater emphasis on transportation and simulation deepens the experience and makes Tropicans feel less like mere numbers. At its heart, Tropico 6 is still a game about building your empire and making it grow, but it’s the small mechanics that create a connection with your benevolent dictator, and help make your anarchy-prone archipelago feel a little like home.

I’m not usually a “city-building” kind of gamer. Aside for some dalliances within a particularly in-depth RTS, or in a few of the newer survival type games. Even then, they are little more than curious dalliances. So imagine my surprise when I found this particular title pulling me in as its deceptive simplicity evolved into multi-tiered complexity and intense micromanaging capacities.

Tropico 6, if you remember my preview from last year, is a game I've been looking forward to. As a part of a long-running series, one with its undeniable ups and downs, one of the biggest draws is the comedic setting that surprisingly helps to draw you into the game. You are El Presidente, building yourself up into the position of a Chavez, bringing a sort of Chavismo (Presidmo?) to your island nation following your revolution and departure from being a colony of 'the crown'

Tropico 6 is the best game I've played all year. It reminds me of all the classic strategy games I used to love, and yet it doesn't make me yearn for them. That's because Limbic Entertainment managed to nail just what makes strategy games so fun. The latest Tropico release is great to look at, it's delightfully complex, and its zany and sometimes absurd humor helps make the whole experience so much more engaging than it might be otherwise. Simply put, strategy game fans owe it to themselves to check out Tropico 6.

Tropico 6 feels like the kind of game that you can fall back on when every other game gets a little too stressful. The economy can be tricky to get started, but you can soon start to kick back and take it easy. If you are finding it too hard though, turn on unlimited money and enjoy your break. It’s almost like going on holiday to the Carribean, which is fitting really.

What’s not to love about Tropico games? Being a resident of Latin America myself, I adore the game’s emphasis on building a Caribbean banana republic dictatorship, mixing both elements from city simulators like Sim City and Cities with some slight touches of dictatorship and tyranny, all covered in a hilarious comedic atmosphere. I had a lot of fun with 2014’s Tropico 5, but I had the dumb idea of buying it for a console instead of a PC. I was looking forward to playing the series yet a...

Tropico 6 is an excellent Tropico game, for better or worse. Despite the new developer the main innovations are new nefarious actions, more faction involvement, and a vastly improved interface. These all make significant additions to gameplay, but we honestly wish there was more focus on being an international supervillain - and at the end of the day, it still feels like Tropico. That’s almost to the game’s detriment, as all the options and things to keep an eye on can be overwhelming for...

In that regard, Tropico 6 goes past just another game where the player builds a city and watches people passively live within it. The player is able to construct a paradise or a dystopia, literally choosing who lives and who dies, and there are repercussions for each decision with warring factions and governments that are interacted with throughout the game. While Tropico 6 remains the same in many ways from the other games within the series, it also consistently remains true to the complex and political nature that comes with ruling a nation, albeit with a few more features added...

The amount there is to do and the depth of its political mechanics make Tropico 6 stand out over its immediate predecessors. It's a tropical vacation worth taking when you're looking for an in-depth city-builder with strong personality and a touch of humor, which is something of a rarity outside of this long-running series. But drink too deeply of its perplexing economic systems and you may find yourself feeling a bit queasy.

“Viva la revolución, El Presidente!” These timeless words have been recorded throughout the ages, etched onto every stone on every island in the Caribbean and shouted into the watery mists since time immemorial…or since 2001. Poptop Software’s original title introduced us into the world of Tropico, where you play as a dictator who makes his own rules in a Caribbean paradise-turned-city-builder. The dynasty of El Presidente lives on in Tropico 6, and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere soon.

Limbic has turned down its opportunity for revolución in favour of reinforcing the rule of El Presidente - a safe pair of hands for colourful city-building and wry commentary on the abuse of democracy.

While Tropico 6 maintains the series' humor and complexity, it sometimes gets bogged down under the weight of its own systems. There's plenty of fun to be found here, but you'll be left wanting more.

Tropico has always felt like a fantastic city builder that doesn’t get as much recognition as it deserves. So, for the review of its sixth iteration, I want to gloss over whether fans of the series should get it right off the bat. The answer is yes to y’all. If you’re like me and you’ve played every single one and adore this series: Yes, definitely get this one. Tropico 6 improves upon things you probably never considered needed improving as well as those you probably did think needed improving.
