As terrible as it may sound, what stuck with me the most about Unravel’s initial E3 reveal way back in 2015 wasn’t quite the game itself. In fact, it was the endearing mixture of nervousness/clear passion for the game that Martin Sahlin was showing as he took us through what exactly Unravel was. Three years later, and after commercial success, we’re back in the tiny shoes of Yarny, the aptly named protagonist of Unravel, but they’re not alone this time. Featuring brilliantly designed co-operative gameplay and a whole lot of heart, Unravel Two is a brief, but thoroughly entertaining journey.

Unravel Two is a standup performance by developer Coldwood Interactive, improving on the original in nearly every way. Whether you have a friend to play with or not, Unravel Two is one of the finest puzzle platformers and couch co-op games in 2018. Though not everything is quite as manageable in single-player as in the main campaign and the narrative is lacking, my five hours with Yarny still had the same wonder as the original title -- just with much better mechanics.

Unravel Two is priced as an indie game and worth the cost if you’re looking for a fun-filled puzzler that you can enjoy with a friend. It’s beautifully created worlds and unique perspective complement environmental puzzles that are a joy to solve. The two Yarnys abilities and cute antics will bring a smile to your face each time they high-five or hug each other after crossing a deep crevice. If you don’t ask too many questions of the story, you’ll get several enjoyable hours out of Un...

Unravel Two is not unlike its predecessor. The added co-op adds more incentive for players to experience its charming presence.

Unravel Two comes up slightly short in comparison to the greatest in the genre, but it nonetheless provides a memorable and serene co-op experience.

Unravel Two takes some respectable risks with making a charming and competent cooperative experience, but pays the price by feeling more like a whimsical diversion than a true sequel.

The original Unravel delivered exciting platforming sequences, creative-but-repetitive puzzles, and a touching story exploring an elderly woman’s memories. Unravel Two doesn’t stray far from those core concepts, but by introducing a second Yarny to control either solo or cooperatively, it injects new ways to approach situations and expands the formula to create a better experience.

Unravel 2 is more than just a puzzle game. It's a journey of working with someone, sometimes that someone being yourself, and going on a journey that will change you. It's a marvel how the developers evoked such feeling out of this slick combination of gameplay and visual storytelling, even one without words. Like me, it will leave you speechless at the end.

For a game where you play as an adorable yarn doll, it does an admirable job setting up a touching narrative intertwined with clever and unique puzzle platforming. And if you have a friend to play with, then Unravel Two is a treat in the visuals and the gameplay.

Unravel Two is everything a sequel should be. It stays true to the original but adds co-op which allows you to play and experiment together as you find your path through the beautiful environments. Unravel was already a very enjoyable game, but with co-op feeling as natural in this game as it does, Unravel Two is a delightful playground for fans of puzzle platformers.

I don’t regret having played this, but I do wish it was better. I love playing co-op games and I was excited by the idea of this minimalist platformer giving me an experience to bond over. Sadly, we both were pretty much in agreement on the final outcome. Unravel Two just doesn’t quite have what it takes to be special.

While its core story might not have the emotional punch of the original, Unravel Two improves upon the original in every other respect. The platforming is more responsive and demanding, while the puzzles are far more inventive and satisfying to solve, which is largely due to the excellent implementation of a second character and co-op. It still works as a solo adventure, but is far more enjoyable if played with a partner. And despite its oh-so-cute appearance, the generous helping of brilliant Challenge levels attest that Unravel Two has really been made by a talented group of Scandinavian sadists.

Yarny is back and this time, the little fellow brought along a pal. Coldwood Interactive's first installment in this franchise was a masterpiece so could the sequel improve upon such a memorable and fantastic adventure?

Cooperative gameplay and challenge levels seems to have led to a lack of charm in this follow-up.

Unravel Two has literally come out of nowhere. Although its predecessor was fairly well received when it released back in 2015, people hadn’t been clamoring for the next adventure the adorable Yarny would embark on. Yet, ColdWood Interactive and EA have paired together once again to bring Unravel Two to the table with excellent co-op functionality to boot.
