World of Warcraft: Legion Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
World of Warcraft: Legion is easily the best product Blizzard Entertainment has released since the initial launch of World of Warcraft, and is an excellent expansion that every World of Warcraft player should at least try.
World of Warcraft: Legion is a great example of an expansion pack: a bit of modernization, a lot of addressing previous criticisms, and a ton of new content.
After months of missteps, Legion shows World of Warcraft finding its footing again and asserting its relevance after more than a decade. Many elements make this an expansion worth enjoying, including class halls, gigantic zones filled with memorable stories, better socialization, the actiony new Demon Hunter class, and world quests. The one big question mark is whether Blizzard can maintain that energy after launch, but so far the outlook seems promising.
Representing World of Warcraft at its best, Legion sets the stage for one of the most memorable chapters in its history.
World of Warcraft newest expansion, Legion, is a highpoint for the game. Here is our review...
World of Warcraft: Legion does the greatest job so far of really connecting players to its world. Unlike the past several expansions, I really want to be a part of this universe and see this story through until its end. This is the best WoW has been since Wrath.
Although the game will still feel a bit overwhelming to new players, World of Warcraft: Legion really manages to learn from every prior WoW expansion and bring the game into a new era. The team at Blizzard is still managing to push some beautiful textures out of the aging engine and the flurry of upgrades to gameplay mechanics and story-delivery make World of Warcraft: Legion an absolute must-play for any fans of fantasy RPGs or MMOs.
Bringing a whole lot of lore and content to a well-established favorite, Legion injects some new life and new fun into the World of Warcraft universe. A huge addition of content and a new take on advancement promises to give current players a lot of bang for their buck, while the included level-boost lets new players catch up with their friends quickly.
I’ve had genuine MMO-like moments in Legion though – me and a Warrior from another server helping each other get to a boss mob for a world quest only to monumentally fail; similarly me and someone from the other faction used emotes to communicate to get to another boss mob only to again monumentally fail. There are plenty of moments in Legion that make you smile, and playing with friends has been the engaging social experience that WoW has missed for a long time for me. Yet, I’m worried this new coat of paint will eventually run dry. Then again Blizzard have grabbed me in many aspects of Legio...
Editor's Note: We had set out to do a complete re-review of World of Warcraft in advance of their expansion the Burning Crusade. However, once into the game, Staff Writer Garrett Fuller decided to go a different way. With so much time between release and an expansion, we opted to take a look at the position so many players are in: the end-game. This is not a full re-review of the entire 1 to 60 experience.
World Of Warcraft is a gigantic monolith that has cast its shadow over the world of MMO’s. No MMO has ever really come as close to the sheer scale and impressiveness of Blizzard’s monster open world fantasy online role player. In saying that, its understandable that in its 12 years, it was going to suffer a little bit. I’ve been worried for WoW for a while now. I’ve felt like its been suffering; the last few expansions really didnt do much for me, even with the recent Warlords of Drae...
