When was the first time Bayonetta 3 was announced? Was it 2017? I honestly do not remember at this point. I feel like it has been so long ago now, to the point I had already given up on Platinum Games delivering it for the current hardware it was designed for, especially after the announcement of multiple other projects which were released beforehand, like Astral Chain and (urgh) Babylon’s Fall. But Platinum, despite suffering from some legendarily poor internal management, wasn’t going t...

It took five years for Nintendo Switch gamers to get their hands on Bayonetta 3, and it was well worth the wait. If Nintendo decides to fund a sequel, then it seems likely that Bayonetta 4 will wind up on the next-generation Nintendo console, and perhaps that entry can address this one's sometimes-disappointing graphics and story problems. Platinum apparently has ideas for at least nine Bayonetta games, and if they're even half as good as Bayonetta 3, they should all be an incredibly fun time.

After eight long years of waiting, Bayonetta is back with all her flash and pomp intact. And while I expect this entry to hold my interest for quite a while, I hope we don’t have to wait another eight years before we see one of the biggest names in gaming return.

Ultimately, we’re left a little conflicted with Bayonetta 3. This is the worst looking and performing Bayonetta yet, with a grander scale that both detracts and adds to the gameplay. We love the fact that we can finally take control of fearsome demons, for example, but we don’t like the fact that the camera struggles when fighting other gargantuan enemies. Add in some other frustrations, and you have a game that sometimes feel like the best the Bayonetta series has to offer, but other times the worst.

Bayonetta 3 is an excellent action game held back from being a great one.

Bayonetta 3 is an action-packed romp filled with the insanity and sassiness you’d expect from these titles and PlatinumGames. The ending will rub many of you the wrong way, but everything up to that point is very much worth it.

Bayonetta 3 has a lot of issues, especially in terms of story, but is well worth playing for the core combat. While the game seems to be doing its best to get you away from that, once you’re fighting, there’s nothing like it out there.

When the witch takes charge, this demonic fighter is better than ever. After eight long years, PlatinumGames has delivered a sequel which successfully celebrates the series, although it does have problems with pacing and a split-focus.

While Bayonetta 3 has a few pain points when it comes to its overall graphical presentation, PlatinumGames delivers an absolutely bombastic, high-octane, over-the-top knockout of an action game.

Bayonetta 3 isn’t perfect, but it’s everything I wanted. Absolute nonsense with sexy demons, some dope ladies, and dynamic combat is what makes Bayonetta 3 absolutely stellar.

Fans of the series, or of the genre, are in for arguably the best outing this genre has had in years. Bayonetta 3 fumbles more than I wish it would, but when it is at the top of its game, it is an incredible exercise in joyous, glorious, utter lack of restraint and incredibly fulfilling mechanical versatility.

Strutting her way back after nearly a decade, Bayonetta 3 is an impressive sequel that is flashy and filled with charm you don’t want to miss.
Read Full ReviewIt’s been a long time waiting for Bayonetta fans. The second sequel to the critically acclaimed action slasher was announced five years ago – the same year the Nintendo Switch launched. That makes it one of the longest anticipated exclusives for Nintendo’s console, apart from Metroid Prime 4, which still only exists as a logo. Yet that long wait may have been in Bayonetta 3 ’s favour.

It’s time. After years of waiting, Bayonetta fans and stans alike have finally got what they’ve been waiting for: a glorious return for the baddest witch in town. Leading up to the game’s release, I wasn’t sure if this game would impress me since it was clear that no great changes would be coming to the series. And while it’s true that there have been no sweeping changes, it turns out that it’s a good thing! Bayonetta 3 is more of the game we love, but with more action setpieces, ...

By the end of Bayonetta 3's third chapter, it's operating on a scale that dwarfs most video games. Buildings twist and crumble like flimsy plastic, giant craters pock-mark the earth, and mountain-sized creatures level entire cities; the bombastic culmination of an opening three hours that feel like they're running a mile a minute; a never-ending barrage of stimuli.

Bayonetta goes big for the series' most stupendous adventure yet, but also its scrappiest.

Bayonetta 3 cranks up the chaos, improves the combat, polishes the level design, and adds a ton of new mechanics to the mix, making for the very best entry in this storied series to date. PlatinumGames has absolutely nailed it this time around, carefully layering on more ways to engage enemies, piling on the OTT gameplay sequences, and giving us multiple protagonists without upsetting the balance of what makes these games amongst the very best examples of their genre. With solid performance in docked and handheld modes, impressive visuals, non-stop action, and a hugely replayable campaign that's a joy from...

Bayonetta 3 takes what worked about the first two games and continues to refine it, from the balletic combat, to the diverse assortment of wacky characters, to the snarky sense of humor. Aging Switch hardware means that the performance is uneven, however, and the difficulty curve can sometimes swing a little too far toward “punishing.” Still, if you’ve been eager to join the titular witch on her latest adventure, you probably won’t be disappointed.

Bayonetta 3 is an ode to the longtime fans who've stuck with the game since 2009. While it's certainly not without its obvious flaws and missteps, I can't imagine that fans would be very disappointed with how this third, explosive entry has turned out. The way is open for even more shenanigans and adventures set in this colorful universe, and it's exciting to see what our Umbra Witches will bring to the table in a new era.

Bigger levels, bigger fights, bigger hair – Bayonetta 3 somehow manages to edge the Platinum formula even harder to deliver one hell of a climax.

In an early tone-setter for the game, you’ll water ski as a giant demon dragon, and it only gets wackier from there. When playing Bayonetta 3, much to my delight, I had no clue what was going to happen next at all times. I was absorbed, and between the crazy story, the environments, and the action system that’s been refined through two prior games (and years of experience), I had very little downtime. It’s pretty much everything an action fan could want.

Bayonetta 3 delivers everything that franchise devotees and action game lovers could possibly want. You get a responsive, layered combat system and entertaining cutscenes. Unintuitive mini-games and obtuse challenges muddle the overall experience, but still, I’d be hard-pressed to name another game from this year with more in-depth and satisfying real-time combat than this one.
