Verdict: As is the case with most wannabe Overwatch games, Bleeding Edge isn’t terrible. It simply doesn’t offer anything that would pull anyone away from the original. The lack of heroes to choose from – and the extreme overpowerfication of some of those heroes – as well as a lack of maps or areas, and there isn’t a ton of replayability. This game feels like someone had a really good idea for a title and then didn’t quite know what to do with it. That appears to be the running theme of the entire game. It’s just a bit undercooked....

Bleeding Edge blends third-person action with MOBA and hero-shooter mechanics to create an interesting but flawed action esport.

Bleeding Edge has a ton of potential, largely thanks to its fun and well-designed combat, colorful style and characters, and nicely-crafted levels and goals that emphasize the need for teamwork and strategy. But in trying to deliver so much when in comes to the fighting elements, it lets a few awkward moments slip through, and worse, puts less emphasis on elements like the story that need it, as well as a need for more content. It's still an enjoyable multiplayer brawler as is, but future updates and additions will act as the true test to see if Bleeding Edge can...

Bleeding edge is plagued with problems. There’s no other way to put it. No way to be polite about it. At a time when society has abandoned the Hero shooter and moved on to the Battle Royale, Bleeding Edge stands atop the crowd and cries “give us a try, we’re Overwatch but with 3rd person melee.” And then it promptly falls flat on its face. Because Bleeding Edge is a massive misstep. And no number of flashy visuals and cool music can fix that.

Ninja Theory's hero brawler has good ideas, but not enough to keep me hooked.

With solid combat and some brilliant character designs, Bleeding Edge has all the potential to become a solid, compelling online action game. Sadly, though, that's all it is at the moment: potential. What's here is good, but there's just not enough content to keep players' interest for weeks or months to come.

Right now, Bleeding Edge is an enjoyable but light multiplayer diversion. Needless to say, its ongoing success depends on Ninja Theory’s ability to keep the experience interesting and fresh. If it’s left too long without new content or modes, current players will probably move on, and an online multiplayer game with no players isn’t any fun at all. There’s a good base here on which to build, but if it’s left to stagnate it will quickly be forgotten.

Bleeding Edge is a polished team-based brawler. Ninja Theory took on user feedback from the betas to improve gameplay and, with more content already announced, Bleeding Edge looks to have enough depth to pour countless hours into.

Bleeding Edge is a unique 4v4 competitive experience that shows a little flash in its third-person approach, but doesn’t deliver much of a punch in combat or enough variation in its match types and maps. Developer Ninja Theory draws clear inspiration from Blizzard’s Overwatch, delivering similar hero-focused play, with each teammate playing a critical role as a tank, support, or damage dealer. While some of the Overwatch nods are a little too obvious, like a hip, headphone-wearing healer who just happens to be from Rio De Janeiro, or a tank who can take off in a sprint to slam an...

Blizzard's Overwatch is among the most popular multiplayer games ever released, but, surprisingly enough, it did not spawn an army of clones: the games inspired by Blizzard's titles haven't been a lot, and most brought interesting twists to the formula. Ninja Theory's Bleeding Edge is, in some ways, among these titles, but the inclusion of mechanics lifted from hack and slash games and MOBAs make it more than a derivative game. While the game does feel a little barebones in its launch state, Bleeding Edge can provide a lot of fun and has a lot of unrealized potential.

Bleeding Edge has all the components in place to be a genuinely entertaining multiplayer mainstay, there just needs to be more of it. With only a couple of maps and modes, and far too few skins and emotes, Ninja Theory will need to roll out more content to keep players engaged.

Fun character designs aren't enough to make Bleeding Edge stand out from the other hero games.

The game has the depth of gameplay and the quality of characters to hang with other popular team-based competitive titles; it just currently lacks the breadth of content those games have had years to build. But with a recently added map and additional character already on the way, the future looks good. This one is out now on Xbox One and Steam for $29.99.

Bleeding Edge doesn’t really do much right. In a game where the melee combat is supposed to be its bread and butter, Bleeding Edge’s is clunky and unsatisfying. With only two game modes at the time of this review, it doesn’t leave a lot of room for variety between each match and you’ll quickly find yourself in a cycle of rinsing and repeating until you’re left wanting more and not being offered anything else.

There’s a decent multiplayer action game concept buried in here, absolutely. Some of these characters deserve to live on in future projects. At the same time, it feels like there are only so many team dynamics to experience. It’s all too fleeting. Once you’ve hit that point of no return, there’s no real motivation to continue. I’d like to pick this back up one day, but realistically, I don’t see that happening.

Bleeding Edge has a lot of charm and fun to offer, but doesn’t do a great job making a case for itself over other games in the genre; which may hurt it in the long run.

Bleeding Edge puts quality over quantity. The people at Ninja Theory have brought their expertise in the hack and slash genre and have translated it into a competitive experience that is both satisfying and distinct. But the lack of content and the boring ranged characters hinders it from really standing out amongst the overcrowded genre. Maybe in a few months, it will feel feature complete. But for now, Bleeding Edge will only have you strapped to your couch for a few hours before you decide to try something else out.

The attention to detail, great soundtrack, and largely well-designed characters belie a game that is clearly loved by those that worked on it, but the crippling lack of depth in every area of Bleeding Edge has made what should have been an excellent game a mediocre one instead. I hope Ninja Theory is given the opportunity to expand on the game, but right now Bleeding Edge is fun but forgettable filler.

Few studios are as singular and widespread as Ninja Theory. While it mainly produces experiences in the character action genre, those hack and slash games cover a variety of tones and series. BLEEDING EDGE is the team’s foray into multiplayer, bringing its stylistic flair and melee fundamentals to the online space. Some of those qualities carry over, but end up getting overwritten by the game’s questionable design.

Bleeding Edge is, at its core, a fun game that is held back from reaching its full potential by repetitive gameplay and a lack of features that in 2020 should absolutely be standard for any game trying to squeeze into the crowded multiplayer game market.

While tinkering with character builds and clashing swords amidst exciting team fights is fun, Bleeding Edge left me wanting more as the hours piled up. Matches frequently devolve into unbalanced, frustrating messes thanks to no role queue, and ranged combat is devoid of all the bits that make team fights enjoyable. Every issue I had with the initial beta is here in the final release, only exacerbated further as my patience for its problems was whittled away to nothingness. At its best, Bleeding Edge is a glorious back-and-forth contest of fisticuffs, but these lingering faults keep me from wanting to...
