Crash Team Rumble is an accessible and terrifically enjoyable online platforming battler, and as more seasons of content are released, it could become a pretty essential multiplayer game. In the here and now, though, it's a bit too limited and features too little content to be anything more than throwaway fun.

Crash Team Rumble stumbles in some crucial areas that could’ve easily been fixed before launch, but what it manages to get right makes up for almost all of its negatives. It’s recommended for fans of Crash Bandicoot and multiplayer players alike.

Back at Summer Game Fest Play Days, one demo seemed to elicit more cheers and shouts from attendees than any other: Crash Team Rumble. Every match played throughout the weekend sounded like the final minute of an NBA Finals game, with loud whooping and anguished cries of defeat echoing through the entire pavilion. If the demo was that fun, surely the full release will be the same, right?

I’m not going to lie, I fully expected for Crash Team Rumble, a multiplayer-only, MOBA take on what has pretty much always been a franchise associated with linear, single player platforming, to be an utter disaster. Who the hell had asked for a Crash Bandicoot MOBA? One that’s console exclusive, and with an upfront price tag, as well as an additional payment requirement for a season pass? Whilst the pricing and monetization aspects of the game did end up being as egregious and stupid as I...

Toys For Bob reinvents the bandicoot for a modern multiplayer audience, and the results are impressively deep.

Those that give Crash Team Rumble a chance will find fun, fast-paced platforming gameplay that rewards coordinated teamwork but is still perfectly entertaining with randoms. Toys for Bob has proven that the Crash Bandicoot-style of platforming is right at home in the online multiplayer space, but the game's longevity is a legitimate concern. Anyone interested in the game should jump in now while the community is most active, but those that don't want to risk spending $30 on a game that may fall off in a few months may be better served waiting to see if Crash Team Rumble gets...

When Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time fans were daydreaming of what would follow the former PlayStation mascot's platforming return, we can't imagine an online multiplayer game with a Battle Pass ranked very high on their wishlist. Fast forward almost three years, though, and Crash Team Rumble makes emotes and pinging just as important as collecting Wumpa Fruit. It may not be what enthusiasts wanted, but those who give it a chance might realise it's what they needed. While Crash Team Rumble won't pull you away from Fortnite or Genshin Impact for very long, there's just enough depth and enjoyment...

It is I, Sonii Sonii! My duty is to review Crash Team Rumble for you! Yes, after our pal Crash Bandicoot returned with his Trilogy and a lovable yet difficult sequel, being summoned thrice has resulted in a very different title, where you get to play as virtually EVERYBODY he knows! Whoa!

Crash Team Rumble feels like a great idea for a game that still had work to be done before it launched. The singular game mode, limited maps and characters, and a small online community kept from growing due to a high price point of entry do not bode well for the future of the game.

Ask yourself: have you long wondered what a competitive multiplayer Crash Bandicoot game would be like? If the answer is yes, then you should probably give Crash Team Rumble a try, especially given its budget price. Crash Bandicoot fans with open minds might also want to dip their toes in – there’s fun to be had, after all. But to really draw players in, we can’t help but feel that this would have been better off as a free-to-play title.

Crash Team Rumble is a slick and addictive online arena battler that looks and sounds great and offers up some properly addictive team-based action that's easy to pick up but with plenty of depth to master. Focusing on collecting fruit rather than killing foes keeps things feeling fun and frustration-free, the various roles available to play as add a sense of skill and strategy, and there's a strong lineup of colourful characters and three decent maps to play on at launch. We're suitably impressed so far and with new seasons adding more maps and characters in the near future, things...

Although primarily known for his platforming prowess, Crash has ventured into a variety of genres, achieving varying levels of success. From slamming the pedal to the metal to manic, mini-game madness, the bandicoot has pretty much done it all, so what’s next for the orange marsupial? After the success of the N. Sane Trilogy and the long-awaited sequel, It’s About Time, a traditional title seemed to be on the cards. Rather than continue down the safe path, Toys for Bob have taken a wild detour with Crash Team Rumble but will the gamble pay off?

The match was too close to call – 1990 to 1995 – but I wasn't keeping track. All that stood between my team and victory was a chubby crocodile with a vacuum. I danced and jumped around him as he used his big belly and Luigi's Mansion-like hoover to bounce me around like a loose piece of cat fluff. I just needed a few moments to deposit my Wumpa Fruit, and victory would be ours. I had my blinders on, and that was a mistake. The enemy team's Wumpa Fruit meter quickly filled to 2000, and the match was over....

It’s a bold move to go with a premium package on top of a season pass model with a smaller release like this, but that’s what we have at the moment. It’s hard to predict how Crash Team Rumble ends up in six months, but I hope it’s still around, and the team is able to just facilitate what is working without corporate meddling. Whether or not enough people feel like spending $30 minimum to stick around and find out is up in the air.

Crash Team Rumble, a team-based four-on-four multiplayer game, isn’t likely what anyone was asking for after the bandicoot’s successful return in 2020’s Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. While it’s difficult to see there being a huge market for this game that’s more like a MOBA than a new Crash Bash, it is still rather enjoyable, especially when played with friends.
